Some deranged Canadian that frequents these boards decided to, in his insanity, send me a custom version of one of my grail knives - the Beer Scout. So many snatched up before I saw the listing! So many escaped me because I just didn't have the funds at the time!
Luckily, this particular Northerner has a gentle and generous kind of madness.
Behold, the beauty of the pocket-worn mesh composite covers and the patina on the pivot:

The cross-section of the mesh gives a speckled appearance, which contrasts beautifully with the brass liners and steel springs:

And now, the big reveal:

The blades are centered and almost pristine, the pull is almost effortless but not loose, the backsprings are flush in all positions, the mesh is actually metallic (not that you can see that in the pictures), and it fits -perfectly- in my watch pocket. It pushes out the watch pocket just enough that you can thumb-and-forefinger it out without any digging, but is snug enough to stay in place, even upside down (tested it!) - this was no junk drawer pass-off!
This is basically the coolest thing anyone has done or given to me, simultaneously. Super ridiculously amazing awesome. This internationally-traveled custom-made generously-given watch pocket companion is a permanent addition, destined to be there through an assortment of life events over the coming years. I'm excited to see how it wears, the character it develops, and the stories I'll be able to associate with it.
Thank you, everyone, for being so amazing. Especially one particularly cold-nosed-but-warm-hearted person whose incredible generosity has brought what is likely to be an heirloom to my doorstep.
