Awhile back you guys might remember that my good buddy Mr. Jason Knight and I had a conversation about a Khukuri and soon after my lovely black beast of a Khukuri was born. He offered a limited amount of slots which all filled quickly.
Jason is in my opinion one of those rare talents a young Master Smith who is in that enviable position to make what he wants. When his back log of orders got to stretch for what is realistically to long to ever deal with full of knives he did not want to make he cut off orders and took a look at how he could spread his talent and wisdom around.
He does a lot of teaching and is generally a very amicable guy who is one of the treasures of the custom knife world. He has chosen to take on projects like the ones he does for Wilson Combat which have turned out to be very successful.
What I dig about Jason besides being a real good man and friend is that he is hard core. He can do pretty with the best of them Ivory and pretty Damascus with a finish that is as perfect as can be.
But he likes to roll hard core he truly would have been in his glory standing in a forge in ancient times hammering out blades to live or die with.
He truly enjoys building and testing hard core user blades.
So you can imagine with how I feel about the man how excited I was when he gave me a call and proceeded to say he wanted to do some knives with input from me and make a limited amount of them available thru me. Kinda like a guest designer
I am way flattered and hopefully this will be fun for everyone and some cool hardcore user knives will be born
For the first project Jason decided he wanted to do a Kwaiken. Jason knows I love Kwaikens and a Kwaiken is probable the most carried knife I own. I have more than a few from some great makers. I have been carrying one from Phill Hartsfield for over 20 years .
What I like about a Kwaiken will come next what a Kwaiken is will come now a Kwaiken is a Japanese styled utility knife and makes for a fantastic EDC. Especially the modern very flat low profile ones that are very popular all started by the late great Phill Hartsfield
Besides being great little utility blades they make for very concealable very comfortable protection blades. When they are chisel ground or double hollow ground they are wicked sharp and the tips are bullet proof all in all for a five inch blade they can be more than devastating and very handy. We would all like to carry a full size fighting bowie but unfortunately its hard to do in the professional world. A proper little 5 inch bladed Kwaiken can virtually disappear if carried properly and believe me will open mail sharpen a pencil crank thru any cutting chore like a proper utility knife because that is what it is but if needed can save your life in style and deliver wicked stabs and slices.
This is proto 1 all these knives will be Brute De Forged to keep cost affordable and to make these true users. There will be some changes on the next but this is basically what it is going to be. Instead of Chisel Ground these will be double Hollow Ground with a convex edge modern tanto styled tip. With this you will get in some peoples opinion better aesthetics than a chisel ground but still retain the wicked cutting ability. With the convex tip you will retain strength and great penetration with a less fragile edge at the tip for light emergency prying
The handle is ray skin with cotton Ito wrap . In my opinion a very grippy grip that is classy and functional.. There will be an optional lanyard hole which would really work better with a bead and a short length of cord to facilitate a better draw from a pouch style sheath.
For a sheath there will be options but mine will ride in a horizontal carry to be worn in the small of my back in a pouch style sheath probable black shark .
It is getting very difficult to get a knife from Jason so if your interested PM me he is only going to make a few and this is a great way to get one of his knives in a relatively short time. Hopefully the next one will be a Fighting Bowie not as handy as a Kwaiken but big fun
