A quality folder that cuts well

If you are not fond of the typical spyderco look, but want to consider one, might look at the Spyderco Vielle II that is available now. Looks a little less spydery (although I have several spydies: calypso jr, chinese folder, and delica, and like them a lot). Spyderco company may still have the Calypso Jr. listed for $35 delivered which is hard to beat. All the suggestions above are also good, imho.

The Vielle is available at:

and maybe http://www.1ks.com/store

Good luck in your quest :)

I am looking for a folder that cuts really well. For example, my dad has a Ritter Grip that I got him for his birthday and this is the kind of knife I mean. The Ritter has really good steel and the blade is thin enough so it cuts really easily. (but you guys already knew that :) )

The ideal specs for me: one hand opening, pocket clip, good steel blade (S30V, 154CM, D2 or something "high end" like these), strong locking mechanism, no blade coating, and under $200 let's say.
OK, I guess I am at a loss and must ask the obvious. Give your compliments and comments about my RSK Mk1 folder, and your "ideal specs," why not get an RSK Mk1 for yourself? :D

I have really seriously been thinking of this option since your RSK is so perfect for me but you know how there's always that urge to try something new and different. LOL

And now that some have mentined it, I think I am kind of a FRN guy. So it looks like a RSK Mk1, Spyderco Native (or Native 3 I don't know which), or Benchmade 707.

BTW, I already have a SAK, but I guess another wouldn't hurt. :)

One of the cheapest ways to get a SAK with 2 knife blades is the Victorinox Pocket Pal - sells for under $8 at discount.......

The (silver) Alox handled Secretary is also nice (low priced at about $10)

Hey, that's wierd! I've actually had my eye on the pocket pal for a little while. Seems like it would be a lot of cut for such a thin/light package!

By the way, what's Alox??

I definitely recommend the Native, specifically the Native III in VG-10. It's light-weight but the handles are rounded out a bit, which makes for a much solider feel, in an already extremely ergonomic knife. The swedge is improved also. ALL the current Natives are good. :D

I second Essav on the native III. The fat FRN scales make it stiff and solid with a great grip. VG-10 makes it a scalpel.

So, besides the different steel (VG10 vs. S30V I guess), what's the difference if any between the Native III and the Native? I like the idea of thick, stiff FRN handles on the Native III but does the Native have these too?

Opinel #8

with its renowned convex profile/edge
I personally like the stainless steel version -
but either will outcut most other knives...... (< $9)

Opinel is a great chioce for cheap slicer - make that inexpensive slicer. Just picked on of these for about 24 bucks.

A knife I've not handled but that might suit is the Spyderco Stretch.
It has a stainless steel handle with an insert and a longish VG10 blade.
Should feel a bit more substantial feeling than a FRN handle but still
remain trim and unobtrusive.
