Hey guys I was just wondering if I could use a 9v dc power source (adapter) connected to the gator clips.

If so how can I test the polarity of the two wires since they are not marked and I dont have any kind of tester or anything like that. I remember when I was a teenager reading about sticking the two ends in water and the one that starts bubbling is the positive but im not too keen on mixing electricity with water even if it is only 9 volts, its connected to alot more in the wall.

Thanks.

If you think it's safe and you're comfortable using it the right way, it'll be fine with the polarity reversed. It just won't work, and you might switch the clips around to make sure. You probably don't need too much water in the area, just a bit of dampness from your electrolyte on whatever pad you come up with. You can always try one of those square camp lantern batteries to get your practice in before you try plugging in. Good luck with it.

There are 3 or 4 Harbor Freight stores in the St Louis area.

They sell multi-meters for $5, you will know the polarity and voltage for sure then.

This.

Also, a dmm comes in handy for all sorts of stuff. I have four or five just because I seem to like collecting them.
