A question about bearings

This is for you machine savvy types, I am pressing a new bearing into the live center on my wood lathe and the original bearing is a 608Z. I have a couple 608RS bearings already, would a single sealed bearing be an ok replacement for the single shielded OEM bearing? I was considering using an angular contact bearing, but the 608 is a deep groove designed for some axial load and should be fine. Not much load should be applied to the center on a wood lathe. Anyone here have any idea if this is ok, or am I over thinking this?

It should be no problem. Definitely stick with the deep groove ball brg tho you shouldn't need an angular contact setup

Cool, thanx guys! Nice that I don't have to buy bearings. Now just to get the outer race out of the cup.

Stevomiller, you located in the east bay? I assume you mean the altimont pass between tracy and livermore.
