Its happened with Tilts as well so i'm sure its just human error.. Just like the NRG2s that said Ken onion design on them..
Yes - we do need a statement on this issue. It would appear to be an intentional manipulation of the serial numbers.
Back to the top. I would love to know how this happened and why the font is different in size.
I don't doubt that human error is a possibility. However, the fact that there hasn't been any official explanation here in the several weeks that this thread has been going is suspicious. Were I Kershaw, I'd want to get out in front of this issue right away stating what the source of the error was, how extensive it is, and what steps have been taken to ensure the integrity of the serial number issuing and marking process. The integrity of Kershaw/ZT as a company is at stake, or at the very least, the integrity of the QC process. I mean, how hard should it be for a manufacturer of precision tools to iron out a process for printing serial numbers without error? This doesn't seem to be a problem that should happen more than once, as you seem to point to. Which again, makes me seriously question whether it's an accident at all.
Definitely not an intentional manipulation. It's human error on the laser machine.... one that we're trying to crack down on.
RJ - I don't mean to call you out specifically, but let's not get too many "conspiracy theories" going here. The knives are still good, and since it's not a limited run, the serial numbers are fairly insignificant (IMHO). Thankfully, the serial numbers don't have any impact on how well the knife functions - although we had to have a little ceremony to exorcise the demons from the knife with the serial number six-six-six......Similar issues occurred with number 13.
It is unfortunate that this mistake occurred, but mistakes happen, and they are generally the result of human error. We have acknowledged the problem, and are taking several different steps to correct it. This incident does not suggest that there are widespread issues. It just means that we need to have a talk with one of the laser operators, and help clarify the documentation of serial numbers from run to run.
Thought you were perfectly clear with what you thought...Thanks for the follow up - like I said, I never discounted that human error could be a factor.
Yes I'm sure this was quite unsettling for you. That doesn't seem to take much.I just found it a bit unsettling that it's taken the better part of a month to get an official word on the issue.
Why of course. We're here to serve your every question, and in a timely manner RJA few follow up questions:
It is not a large number.1. Is the number of knives which exhibit a duplicate serial number known?
It is a knife that I'm sure will be in the line-up for some time.Is there no end in site for the 0550 as a regular production model?
NoCan anyone indicate after what production serial number we should stop seeing duplicates out there?

I'm quite sure that RJ has tender feelers over the past. While I find his postings sensationalized and bordering on trolling, you just have to keep perspective.. No need to get worked up.lol is this guy for real? Maybe if he had a duplicate knife I'd understand being curious about it but since it hasn't affected him in any way . . .
Rolex John: Why do you hang out on a ZT/kershaw forum if you think they're such a nefarious company? Are you some kind of masochist or do you just enjoy trolling?

Currently I direct the sales and marketing teams here at Kai. I'm also responsible for warranty and new product development (other things as well). Yea I'm busy, yes they pay me, yes I do this at work.Heres a question for you: Are you actually payed to do this? I know you work in marketing at kershaw but is replying to questions like this actually part of your job description? Do you do it while at work?
I get frustrated, and somewhat feel there are posts that are a waste of valuable time
