I have been a survivalist for around 3 years collecting and storing for any case of emergency...I have decided to add a decent knife into the collection.

What do you own for any case of emergency?
Right now I have about $100 to blow but I would like to spend less than $30 or just a tad more.
I'm looking for a good knife that can gut fish cut, small to medium branches, and do the dishes.(jk)
Please tell me if my price range is unreal because I am still fairly new to knives.

Sincerely,
AntiqueBlades

If you're going to use it for stuff other than sitting in a BOB, look into Mora, Condor, Ontario, Becker, and ESEE. (Those're in order from cheapest to most expensive, BTW.) But most of those are over $30. You might be able to find a lower end Mora or Condor in your preferred price range.

If the knife's just gonna sit around in a bag for years while you wait for the world to end, then just throw a jagged rock in there and save your money.

That's funny but very good advice.

I shouldn't be encouraging the SHTF meme, but an Mtech "Rescue Team" knife is about $15 on Amazon, just the right size to combine those two jobs, and I'd expect it to be as tough as nails (I have its big brother, the $25 MT151 bowie, which is notorious as a favourite with youtube nutjobs who try to destroy knives.) Don't forget to pack a sharpening stone, or if civilization does end you'll feel a real muggins.

I'd recommend a stainless Mora given your price range and purpose. Check out the Survival Skills sub-forum here at BladeForums for hundreds of reviews, photos, and recommendations. These are certainly in your $30 price range.

For something much heavier and thicker (better for chopping branches, not so great for cleaning fish) check out Condor knives.

Ka-Bar BK2 is a really good choice, but it's about $65. That isn't a lot of money for a good survival blade; there are better choices that are in the $100+ range, but this is a good one. I have the BK7, which is the larger 7" version of this knife, and it has performed really well for me.

A stainless mora for heavier tasks and a stainless opinel folder for smaller ones. Together should run you $40.

A Victorinox Farmer costs about $30.00. It’s the Boy Scout pattern used by most armies during all of the last century.

It must be doing something right.

The Farmer also has a good quality wood saw.

Get a Mora for general knife tasks and a Tramontina machete for chopping/beheading vampires or zombies or whatever. Together they should only cost about $30 shipped and are enough to tackle just oabout any knife related chore you might have. If you really only want one knife look at Green River knives or a Cold Steel Bushman. Any of those should take care of you.

The answer to about 99% of discussions on this website?? Blasphemy ;)
For your situation, I have a Glock Feldmesser and Mora Utility knife in my little black bag.

I camp and practice a lot of survival skills and a knife is one thing that you use more than anything else in your kit...while the Mora is good and has a huge following with outdoorsmen (i have a couple as well) I would save a bit more and get an ESEE 6. Street price is around 135...you won't regret it especially if your going to use it regularly. After that save up for a good machete, tomahawk, saw and a blade I bit smaller, like a esee izula 2 and a good multi tool and a good machete. I'm not saying to pack all of this along every time but every situation calls for a different set of tools

I'd go with a large buck packlite skinner for that price range. You won't be dissappointed, especially for the price

For 30 dollars you can get a mora 2000. My bug out bags dont collect dust. I rotate the knives and gear into everyday use. Personally in an emergency I want to be familiar with all my gear. So a bug out bag knife is just a knife that is temporarily removed from my rotation.

Light saber with extra power packs ( or a plasma charger ) is all you need.

I wouldn't kid you

SS Mora is as good as it gets for $30

consider spending about $100 for Fallkniven F1 or about $200 for Bark River Bravo or Gunny in 3V

Buy a Mora 440 or 546. If your hands are large add a paracord wrap. Add an inexpensive synthetic stone and you will still have enough to buy an inexpensive folding saw and have $70 bucks left. I bought a friend, who is notorious for abusing and loosing knives, a yellow 440 several years ago. He uses it and still has it. I have a couple of 546s that I keep in grab and go fanny packs for day trips. IMO Moras are the value leader.

I'd recommend the Mora 746, if you're comfortable with a knife of that size, I've got the 710 in carbon, and feel it's one of the most ergonomic knives I own and ready for a great deal of use. The 746 would be pretty close to the same knife and in 12C27 stainless. Also if you'd want something more robust, the Condor Rodan is quite popular on these boards and, is in 1075 carbon, pretty tough stuff. Another Bug out tool I'm quite fond of is the Cold Steel Spetznaz Shovel, it's a shovel, that sharpened on all sides, and can chop with as great deal of authority, mine isn't good at any particular thing, but a fine jack of all trades tool.
