A question for Joe and or CJ about the Eco's

I still maintain that it would have been more appropriate for it to have been named the "Eco 426".

Funny how my comments about coming back to Buck because of their new knives was all glossed over, yet the "old man" comment seemed to bring out a tad bit of a heartbeat...

Not everybody views a Buck 110 as "classic."

The very definition of insanity is doing something the same over and over and but expecting different results. If Buck wants to sell more knives to those outside of the "it's a classic, not an old man knife" box, they've got to change things up a little.

Adding the Paperstone handle to the 110 now makes that knife accessible to waaaay many more than me that see that "real" 110 as totally dated and belonging in my/their Grandpa's dresser drawer.

Again, great job Buck in winning over new people.

Perhaps I am just that guy that Buck was hoping for when they decided to go with the Paperstone handles and call it a 110.

See, I've know many people that have carried/used a "real" 110. But for me, it looked like a big chunky knife that couldn't be carried unless you strapped that monstrosity of a case on to your belt just to hold it. Sure, it worked great. The 110 seemingly always has. But as soon as I handled one of them, I knew that my thinking (for me) was correct. For me, there were plenty of other knives out there that were half the size of the chunky 110 that could do the same or better at whatever task I threw at it.

Recently though, I found the Vantage Pro. A great knife without being too big and too "old man" for my tastes. And because of this really great knife, I reopened (so to speak) my mind to Buck knives.

Now lo and behold, there is a 110 that isn't that chunky old man knife that everybody's grandpa carried to work every day. There is a 110 out there now for those that don't want a knife with handles that look like they were made out of some rescued wood paneling from a condemned 1970's house.

This new 110 is finally a "real" 110 for me. Thank you Buck. :)

one in a million?

wacbzz does have a point. Why does the auto industry come out with new car designs every year? Or the fashion industry? Tastes change, styles change. It's great that variants of the classic 110 have stayed in production this long, but it's also a competitive market. People are always demanding something new. For example, new music is in demand no matter how popular a classic song or classical music is.

Personally, the Eco's not a 110 to me, but it's not a big deal. Buck can call it whatever they want. I'm just glad Buck is still around (unlike Camillus, Schrade, etc...) and making knives in the USA. If calling this model a 110 somehow helps them sell more knives, I'm all for it.

The 110 an(old mans knife ),that's like saying a 67 Shelby Mustang is an old mans car. You're right Dave, those 70's Mustangs were Pintos in drag!Sin no more young man,you are forgiven. Ha Ha

I like it . Not as much as a regular 110. It does make me think of an updated Bucklite and not a 110 though. How durable is paperstone?
