A Question For Knife Buyers???

For a "beater" using knife I'd go:

1) Coated (not Teflon, something more durable)
2) Stone Washed
3) Satin

I almost completely agree with Corduroy (Drew). I am a little more ambivalent about satin or polished, but they are my top two. Bead blasting has a place I guess, but I find I rarely sneak up on sentries.

Coatings in general are just awful. They look horrible after hard use, but great in the showroom (kind of like all the plastic bumpers on cars these days). A lot of modern materials just don't stand the test of time. Most older pocket knives look better after years of use. They get a warm look to the materials. An old synthetic just looks old and dirty. Micarta keeps looking pretty good though in my experience. I'm not talking about knives that have been abused, just used and taken care of. I frankly love the grey patina that a well used, high carbon steel blade takes on.

I don't mind the stone wash finish on my newer small Sebenza but I wish it had the satin finish that is on my older ATS-34 large Sebenza.

L6 I don't think you are wasting your time with the buffer, but you might offer some satin finish stuff to give your customers an option.

1. Stone washed
2. Satin
3. Some type of coating(Ti vs something more durable)

I guess I meant stone-washed, instead of bead-blasted. What's the difference, anyway? Where can I find a picture of a bead-blasted blade (say that three times, fast

I prefer satin personally, but don't mind any of the others (that I've seen thus far) except the black finishes. I think they look cheesey and invite trouble from LEO.

I understand that a lot of people buy them because they think it makes them look cool because the black coatings are associated with all the "covert", "spec ops" stuff, but it's this same association that's gonna make it tough for a LEO to believe that you're not carrying it for some illicit purpose.
