Off Topic A Question for Knife Makers...

So there was this one knife I've been waiting months for from this maker and he posted the exact model I've been waiting for, he won't let me make any sort of reservation even if I paid 100$ extra, it's first come first serve & someone bought it within minutes & I was 20 minutes late, I was disgusted simply because of how long Ive been waiting. So my question is for Knife makers, why make only 1 knife if you know if you made 10 you would sell them instantly? Why not make the popular model for months and instead make other models that take longer to sell and aren't as popular? If I was a knife maker that could sell a certain model within minutes of posting, I would make a lot more, not just one (supply and demand). They keep making prototypes that people DO buy but this particular model sells instantly.

This maker also has a crew so it's not just one guy.

This knife is my dream knife which is also why I'm so upset & it really puts me off from being a knife collector, I'm thinking about quitting because im too passionate about it and in the end it's just a waste of money on a piece of sharpened steel.

I'm sorry for being negative but this kind of ruined my day.

When I call popular restaurants and want reservations for 9 pm on Friday, often I do not get them.

I wonder if it is for similar reasons.

Probably not Marci. I think it's just you. :p

True. I do tend to whip out my CS XXXXL Stabinator to eat my tournedos Rossini and those darn food snob sheeple get all bent out of shape.

But I guess if the restaurant just had more tables it wouldn't be a problem. Why don't restaurants do that?

Marci said "sheeple", Marci said "sheeple"-BAD Marci. :( Anyway, if they added more tables they might get more customers and then they would have to hire more people, and expand the premises, and raise their prices and let people like you in-it would be endless. Or, maybe like that knife maker they prefer to keep their business the way they like it-what a strange concept. ;)

See, I did not think of that at all! That is very insightful and no doubt explains what is happening to our friend 1776.

Ok, just give it up, what knife is it? If you were willing to pay an addition $100, perhaps find the buyer and make an offer.

Ide even pay $150 extra. It's called the "m8 sub compact" I'm not allowed to say the maker, I think katanas already knows lol also the maker is strict he doesn't take offers even if you pay 300$ extra, 400$ , 500$ it doesn't matter. It makes it even harder because people don't just buy his knives and sell them like busse or any other knife brand. There has been only 1 sold of the model I've listed in the history of this site. You should see the torture tests they do...

From the makers stand not taking extra pay keeps his pricing fair and equal it is then just a matter of fastest draw and luckiest SOB. You might have better chance at going to something like Blade Show or even Blade Show, assuming this maker attends any such events, and buying in person what I saw when I went for the first time this year makers bring a selection and they can go fast but you might have a better chance fighting a physical crowd to an electronic one to get to the front of the line. Why not have 10 and sell 10 depending on the shop size it might make for a much larger delay than a singular rinse-wash-repeat system and delay can be the bane of a manufacturer as your finances are tied up until you have a product to sell.

Yeah well I can't do either of those options, youd have to be the luckiest guy in town to just so happen to get an alert w the exact model you're going for, without an alert of any upcoming knives. I could see if they had a Twitter/ Facebook where they say there's an upcoming release but other than that i have no luck. I also get a feeling someone used some sort of program to reply like a bot or something, that's another stupid thing, anyone can use a program like that & kick everyone else out from buying anything. Then for anyone like me waiting to buy the model will have to wait 8 months AGAIN because they never make more than 1 & they know I've been waiting.

This was the popular model but there's only ever been one sold?
Yes only 1 on blade forums I've made some forums looking for it but I pretty much gave up on them. They've only made like 4 since they've begun I THINK I mean I've been following them for a long time & waiting and they've been around a while. They always make the normal m8 but it's huge and way too pricey for me... It doesn't look as good either. The sub compact has more of a unique looking blade.

Okay, it's a decent knife, might even say it's a nice knife, but why are you so fixated with this particular brand? There are similar knives by other makers that are much more available. (Try the Crotalus by Condor. Or TOPS or Busse.) As to your question, who the heck knows why they do what they do, I guess they can run their business however way they want. You're right, it doesn't make much sense to me either but it is what it is. No reason to be discouraged, just realize that some grail knives will be tough to get. After you get some similar knives from other makers, you might find that your obsession with that particular knife will start to wane. Your tastes can change over the years.

And correct that I'm lazy. LOL

Nice knife. Man, I hope it doesn't elude you for too much longer. It appears one was sold last year. Perhas read the forum rules first, but maybe you can contact the buyer.

I wasn't calling you lazy i was saying correct about it being the knife, also which rule have I broken? The rules are confusing for me, it only talks about memberships and I was trying real hard to not break any rules here by mentioning the makers name.
