Off Topic A Question for Knife Makers...

Okay, it's a decent knife, might even say it's a nice knife, but why are you so fixated with this particular brand? There are similar knives by other makers that are much more available. (Try the Crotalus by Condor. Or TOPS or Busse.) As to your question, who the heck knows why they do what they do, I guess they can run their business however way they want. You're right, it doesn't make much sense to me either but it is what it is. No reason to be discouraged, just realize that some grail knives will be tough to get. After you get some similar knives from other makers, you might find that your obsession with that particular knife will start to wane. Your tastes can change over the years.

I'm fixated with the brand because their knives are really good, I do have knives already by busse and tops, they are nice but you would just have to see their torture tests to understand what I mean. Also their sheaths are really nice.

Back when I was single (loooong ago), I wanted Natalie Wood BAD! Someone else always got her. :( I did get a wonderful woman so happiness can be found outside the dream. Women and knives have much in common; including that both can be beautiful, useful and dangerous. ;) I don't recommend the torture testing on women, they are better at it! :p

Busse knives stand up to some ridiculous amounts of torture, do these beat them? And if they do, do you really need a knife that can withstand that much abuse?

I wasn't calling you lazy i was saying correct about it being the knife, also which rule have I broken? The rules are confusing for me, it only talks about memberships and I was trying real hard to not break any rules here by mentioning the makers name.
LOL, I know you didn't, I was tying onto another poster's response with the Google search they provided. I was just poking fun at myself. :)

No rules broken either. I was suggesting that if you were going to contact the buyer, you might want to check on the rules regarding such engagement.

Sorry for the confusion!

I have actually watched some of their torture tests and I got one of their short swords a while back. I forgot what model # they call it. It's a two hander and it's definitely the heaviest thing with a blade edge I have ever bought. It's too heavy to take camping or backpacking. I knew it would be heavy and blocky going in, so I'm happy with it and still have it. You'll laugh when I tell you what I use it for. I like to box and have a heavy bag and other boxing equipment at home. There is a boxer's exercise called chopping wood that helps with a shoulder injury I sustained a while back. You don't actually chop wood, you just use a heavy thing to simulate chopping wood with an ax. So I use this short sword to do this exercise and rehab my shoulder. Go figure, it's the toughest, heaviest blade I ever got, and I use it to cut air! :D

The women in the old movies (pre 1970) were really hot! I just watched King Solomon's Mines with Deborah Kerr recently. Wow, she was a knockout! They don't make 'em like that anymore.:)

It would be a good contest to see whose knife is the toughest. Somebody richer than me would have to volunteer their knives. But seriously, I agree with you, at some point, you gotta figure it doesn't really matter. Especially on a smaller knife. Big knives (9 or 10 inch blades+) or swords, I can see obsessing over toughness, but on a small knife, meh... not really an issue.

I could use the same argument and say why do you need a busse? Why not get a cold steel knife lol or something that not might be as good...

It's all good man

So there was this one knife I've been waiting months for from this maker...I was 20 minutes late...[I'm] too passionate about it..
It can be argued that perhaps you were not passionate enough being 20 minutes late to the party. And why would the mention of Miller Bros break any rules?

Nothing wrong with a cold steel knife either, the newer ones have some great steel I doubt you would ever break. However when I was buying fixed blades Busse knives was the only game in town that i could find that offered a lifetime warranty from a company that had been in business awhile with a really good steel. And to be fair, the Busse blades I use are actually of their thinner stock so not the ones that are as thick and heavy.

But nowadays you have a lot of choices of tough knives from reputable companies. So the question is, do you want this particular knife just because it's "cool" to you or are you looking for a knife that has it's capabilities in the same size that you will actually use. If it's the first, good luck finding it. If the second, find a knife that will work for you and move on. You can always keep an eye out for the one you want. But it's really not worth obsessing over to try and get that one knife.

Yeah that is true but I do have so much knives that I already have what I want right now unless you have any recommendations, I've been buying from small businesses lately just because of the quality and how they make their knives in the USA.

Well as I mentioned there are Busse knives, also Carother blades (Nathan the Machinist), but why don't you take a look at the knifemakers for sale section, there are a ton of talented craftsmen there that sell beautiful and functional blades for a reasonable price.

Isn't that promoting which is against the rules?
I don't think so, just discussing a particular maker's knife should be okay. Otherwise, we'd only be able to discuss knives made by makers who have a forum here. I don't think the moderators want to be that strict.

MBB seems to make good knives and swords, but their prices have gone crazy over the last year or so. They aren't the only game in town. Another maker I've heard good things about is Mineral Mountain Hatchet Works. And their prices are very reasonable.

I just checked them out and ill agree with you on that , those are quite nice for the price.

The only rule, AFAIK, is that you can't post links to makers/brands that are not sponsors of the site - but you can definitely mention who made your custom, a favorite brand, etc.

Also:
"Any "destruction" type testing is not covered under this warranty.
The testing shown in MBB videos, is not necessarily the recommended or intended purpose of the blade. These videos are solely intended to demonstrate durability and performance under extreme situations."

So if you are really into it because of how tough it is... IMO a Busse would suit you better. Of course they would have to have a blade and pricing that you like too.
"Busse Knife Group encourages extreme usage of our blades as they are without question "The Toughest Knives in the World". We have no rivals. You can use a Busse Knife Group blade as hard as you like and our warranty has you covered."

Only you know if it's worth jumping through hoops like a trained circus animal. I enjoy limited production knives as much as the next guy but there are so many choices available, it makes little to no sense for me to play their games. YMMV

Why not just place an order with a knife maker you like, pay his deposit and wait until its done and its yours. It sometimes takes months or even years. So what get in the makers bookings and you will get it eventually.
