i see spyder co now offers a delica with the wave. why was the spyder whole not reduced in size to acommidate for the wave? it looks kind of awkward since it has the wave the whole isnt going to see much use imo. but im glad they have started using the wave i love it and have it on most of the designs im in the process of making.

I can assure you that I am not Sal, but I think I can give some feedback. I personally don't use the wave feature everytime I open my waved knives. I've also noticed that most of the people who post about opening their waved E4s & D4s don't use the wave most of the time. For one, the wave can wear out the corner of the your pants fairly fast. Secondly, it may not be very sheeple friendly to be whipping it out all of the time with the wave. And third, the wave can, if not given attention to, open the knife pretty hard. I always think that it may be wearing down the knife faster than is necessary.

I had a Pacfic Salt waved by a member here and I really enjoy the larger hole. I just recieved my Waved E4 and I prefer the larger hole over the smaller E4 hole. It also creates a larger wave which makes it easier to wave than the E4. To make the hole smaller would also mean making the wave smaller. It's the larger wave on the Spyderco versions that make it more effective than the original patent holder's designs. All in all, I would vote against Spyderco making the hole on the D4 smaller.

exactly, adding a Wave and subsequently reducing the hole from 12mm to, say, 10mm is like taking one step forward and then take one step back again.

would make no sense, the idea is to improve knives over time

12mm hole = good
12mm hole + Wave = better

------------------------------ +

=........................= improvement

simple math :)

Ignor' would probably say something like this "no way, it's perfect!"

i personally have no experience with waved spydies, yet

do you not think the delica with both is a little bulky in the spin area?

I don't. Of course, as long as the knife in question gets it's primary job done in a safe and effective manner, all other things are a matter of personal preference. Again to answer your question, I don't think it's bulky. I have to agree with Denn, I think it would be a step backward. Why don't you check out a local shop to see for yourself if it's too bulky before making a decision on it? The Delica and Endura have gone through approximately 15 or so years of refinement based on customer experience and feedback. The end product that you see on your screen is the result of a lot of passion, flexibilty, commitment and ingenuity on the maker's side. You(everybody) really just need to get one in your hands in order to give it a fair judgement.

well i dont want this to get to be an argument on christmass eve. so i will leave you guys here on the spyde forum alone after this post! i have found a spyde i like the wave on and think its desgin for the wave is optimal. its the p'kal heres a link just in case http://66.113.178.251/forums/showthread.php?t=20449&highlight=perrin+street+beat

i use my knives every day i go to work and the less time i use on the basics of little tasks the more productive i am and since productivity is what my job is all about; making thing faster and more effective is my mind set.

Wow, I had no idea you were thinking we were being arguementative. I had no intentions to be antagonistic if that 's how you saw it. I essentially said,"whatever floats your boat, but here's what I prefer and why". Anyway, didn't mean to come off negatively in any way. Happy holidays:) .

Yeah, he'll be back:). But now I want a frickin P'Kal. I promised my girlfriend, that my next knife will be the last for awhile. And it should be, I'm really working on getting my finances in order. So the next one will have to be magnificent.

Hi Bartblade.

The Emerson wave as done on the Endura and Delica were the result of customer requests and testing. The 13mm hole is a good working size for a hole opener. Appearance was not a consideration. Only funtion.

The wave on the P'kal was also added as the result of customer requests. I chose to make it removable in the case of the P'kal. Again, looks was not a big consideration. Only function.
