A question for those of you who collect custom knives

For me personally owning crks has showed me it's far as I'm willing/wanting to go with knives. Serena and under from now on. I do own one mid tech and it's amazing, but that's not the route I want to take. Sebenzas, are the perfect blend of looks and being a hard user. I've handle more expensive knives and they're nice but just not for me. Some of the custom folders are over the top and I know if I owned one it would sit in the safe.
I'm also into guns and have no safe queens, nothing I'm scared to holster or scratch from :my glocks, to my hk's or sigs..
So when I got a couple of nice mid techs and they just sat in the safe I felt guilty in a way. The Seb is a full on production, but it's amazing f&f. It's amazing that knife after knife comes out of that factory silky smoothe and looking good.
I have no problems with people who desire to own customs. I used to desire them, but the Seb. killed that desire.
:)

I'll suggest that there is an ever-growing range in customs. Some are better and some are not. CRK is a pretty good valu in my opinion (and a lot of production knife guys would giggle at the sound of that).

Just the fact that CRK is in this discussion is pretty amazing. The maker of 5 production folders(I believe that's right) is being compared to the makers of all custom knives and at any price. Some of the custom makers are excellent, some not so. Some you can buy direct, many of the best makers have their books closed and can be only purchased at inflated prices in the secondary market if at all. It is a great testament to what Chris has achieved that he can be compared at all, much less favorably.

These are wise words.

Yes, Peter, that is rather remarkable. And quite a compliment.

To be sure, there ARE customs that I think 99% of us would agree are superior to what CRKS is producing currently, but good luck getting your hands on one for 10x the money;)
