A Question For You Sal About The Kris Bolsters

Well, after 8 1/2 years on ebay and over 800 transactions, I finally got shafted by an unscrupulous seller. I purchased a Spyderco Kris from a seller called texasknife. The knife was listed as NIB and his description stated "New in the box and ready to ship". Well, I received the knife the other day and when I opened it I discovered, much to my dismay, that the bolsters on both sides were all scratched up. I notified texasknife immediately and sent him closeup pictures of the scratched up bolsters. His response was "You bought the knife, you own it. Sell it to someone else on ebay."

Now to my question. Sal, judging by the pictures below, if I sent the knife in to Spyderco, do you think the bolsters could be repolished or replaced? They are one of the main things that make this the beautiful knife that it is and to be scratched as they are ruins the knife IMOP.

I appreciate your taking the time to read this posting Sal, and for any input you or others may have.

Thanks for the heads up Esav, but the pictures are uploaded to my host and linked to
my posting using the "insert image" icon. They showed up fine in my preview and when viewing the posting on both my and my wifes computer. Anyone else having trouble viewing them?

Replacing the bolsters would be impossible. Am sure Spyderco can re-polish them for you, although the marks on the right one look more like minor surface blemishes in the steel itself than scratches, so there's a chance they might not be able to fully remove them.

Steel bolsters, and all steel handles, do scratch quite easily, so unless you plan to store the knife in a manner where the bolsters never come in contact with anything, they won't stay scratch free for long. In fairness to the seller, the knife could have been that way when they received it. However, their response to you could certainly have been more polite, and more helpful.

They came up as red x's again, but I was able to left-click and Show Picture, which brought them up.

The scratching doesn't look too serious. The bolsters should be restorable. The seller was a [bleep].

Hi Sasafrass,

have you contacted customer service?

Hi Sal,

Thanks for reading my post. I am sending customer service the pics, but don't expect to hear from them before monday. I was just curious to get your opinion. Thanks again for taking the time.

Hi Dan, we can't tell much from pics.

Unless the scratches are really deep, they can probably be buffed out. But....as mentioned, stainless bolsters will get scratched if you use the knife.

If you do it yourself, be sure to tape off the scales just before the bolsters
to help prevent them getting messed up in the process;

Possibly your site doesn't allow sharing, here are some links that hopefully will
work better, otherwise folks can copy and paste in the address bar to see them.

they don't look too deep, keep motion in one direction and not back and
forth as you 'brush' out the scratches and you should be good to go

Thanks for the links Gary. I don't know what happened. I've never had a problem with my images showing up before on this site or any of the other sites I post on. I suspect the problem is probably on my provider's end as they just did a complete makeover of their site.

As for repairing the knife, I don't trust myself to not screw it up further so I'll send it to the professionals at Spyderco unless someone else has a better idea.

I couldn't see your first post images yesterday...but they are visible today...same computer nothing different on my end. Weird.

I have a Pegasus that was engraved by Brooks Burt. I bought it at the first Blade show I attended. I don't know if he is still engraving, let me do a search.....
