A question on matches and match cases

For those of you that have the K&M match cases and use strike anywhere matches, how do you carry them? Any buffers between the match heads and the case, or just straight in?

I alternate them up and down to get maximum fill. Don't sweat it-- fill 'er up and keep it handy!

No problem at all. I don't trust the striker on the case 100%, so I have been known to tear off a striker strip (or two) from a match pack and keep it inside with the matches.

if you want, I read somewhere, take some newspaper or piece of printer paper, coil it into a cylinder shape to serve as a liner for your match case. It also is tinder, and can absorb a little humidity so the matches stay dry in humid places.

You can cut a small bit of length off the matches and place some more tinder at the bottom of the container.

I put a piece of tinder on top of the matches inside the match case so they cannot accidentally hit the inside striker and or smash with enough friction to go off.

the hazards of matchstick boom were mostly confined to the METAL scout containers that were widely available many years ago. I had a few go BOOOM in my pockets or pack when i was running down the trail. Never had any issues with the army plastic matchcases, filled with alternating matches (heads up & heads down).

k&m with rei matches and fatwood slivers jute twine and striker.....sweet and light...compass is nice touch...i love mine

I turn them all upside down just to be safe. A cotton ball would do the trick, just like a piece of tinder also.

I top mine of with a cotton ball...I like the bigger one, made for REI maches. I think there the best matches available.

Here's a story that might be related.
I had a large box of strike-anywheres sitting on top of the refrigerator one time, I went to open the door and the box fell off and self ignited. It was a particularly hot and dry day, but just goes to show that it can happen. It's hard to say, but I think they ignited even before they hit the floor.

Where my parents live in CO it is almost impossible to find strike-anywhere matches.
