Last year, a relative gave me an old sawmill blade and asked if I could make him some kind of knife to use for clearing brush etc. This is what I came up with.

I did an interrupted quench (in for about 5 seconds and out for about 3 seconds, then back in for the cool down)

Forged from a section of old rusty sawmill blade
Old Canvas Micarta (circa early 60's)
Stainless Bolts and Thong Tube
OAL - 14 1/2
Blade Tip to Handle - 9 3/4"

That is one fine looking chopper, Robert.
Did you use clay or is the hamon a result of the interrupted quench?

Good one, Fred

How are you doing in the heat? My butts glued to the AC.

Bigboy, Does this mean you were messing with a water quench? You know better than that. Looks like a great looking chopper. Does it come with a motor?

Thanks Fred. I used no clay. The line is the results of the interrupted quench.

As if it is not hot enough here in Bama land, it gets even hotter when that forge is fired up. Waiting on winter.

Hey Big-un', No water quenches for me. Been there, done that, and the woods are full of broken blades.

The motor for this one is a prototype.... It runs on cold beer.;)
