A quick video biography on Sal Glesser

Class act. Good people are hard to find and are impossible to replace. Appreciate them while they are here. Thank you Sal for the amazing work and your tireless dedication to your goals and success.

That's awesome! I love stories like this. Start form nothing, or very little, and become a success. The part that saddens me is this kind of story is almost impossible now days. Today it almost always takes money to make money. Sorry to hijack, just made me reflect and think.

:). It was almost impossible back then too. The fundamentals of this world haven't really changed that much. A mans gotta have a vision and a lot of salt to make this kind of success out of his life today, but the same ingredients were required 40 years ago.

Watch the other videos in the series that BladeHQ have made and you will clearly see why Sal stands out among the rest.....despite what he has achieved and done in the industry he is remarkably down to Earth.... no wonder he is so blessed!

Today has been a big day! I just ordered my first Spyderco knife & I'm making my first post on this forum. That video bio of Mr. Glesser gives me a great appreciation for the family, their company & their fantastic products. Thanks for posting it so this new guy gets an important history lesson!

Thanks, too, for all the great info I've gotten from lurking before joining. You all helped me choose my first, in what I know will be a series of, Spyderco products!

Welcome to BladeForums HinFL! Congrats on your first Spyderco!

That was great, thanks for posting! Sal showed great vision and drive. I guess it paid off!

Great vid thanks for sharing. Class act all the way, which is more difficult than many would suppose when you're the owner of a business.

Great video. I love these Meet Your Maker videos. I know I can always count on Sal and Spyderco to put out quality cutlery.

I find it interesting that the "Spider" in the Spyderco name was not derived from a knife but from a neat tool that held things called a third-hand. I wish Sal had said more about it and how he jumped from it to knife sharpening. Here is an interesting link from the Spyderco forums.

The Spyder

A quote from the history of Spyderco book "The name Spyderco and the mascot spider that became embodied in the company's logo were derived from the word "spyder," which represented two things: the spiderlike shape of the Portable Hand (Sal's first invention) and the designation some European automakers gave to high-performance roadsters.
High performance, then and now, was what Sal wanted to provide in whatever products he sold."
