A RANT about the Post Office and dishonest people!

Hi everyone, I don't normally do this. I am the guy that usually stays pretty calm and mellow when things go south but this one just put me over the edge and I didn't know where else to turn to blow off some steam.

Here's my story: Monday morning I went to the Post Office to pick up a package I had been tracking. More specifically a Black Tie Game Warden I purchased on the exchange. I have been trying to get one of those forever and finally jumped on this one when it came up.
When I arrived the package had not been delivered to my box yet and I had to catch a flight in an hour and didn't have time to wait for it. Apparently I only missed it by an hour or so because when I tracked it at the airport it showed as delivered.

Well I arrived home late Friday and went to grab the package. To my surprise/frustration they delivered somebody else's package to my box and my package to his box. After a long day today dealing with the Post Office I was told that since there was no insurance they would do nothing about it. They put a note in the other guys box and that was it.

What ticks me off the most is that some jerk got my package, opened it and decided they liked the knife or deserved it more than me(by the way I know where this jerk lives and his PO box). I am so sick of dishonest people! Plus now I am out a bunch of cash and a knife I have been hunting for for a long time.

So there's my story. Thanks for letting me get on my soap box. Sometimes it helps to just get it all out.

Would you be able to simply go to the guys house and say that you both got each others packages and swap them?

I should probably let sleeping dogs lie but insurance or not I would file a complaint for the mis-delivery of the mail. If they had done their job you would have your knife. It's not like the box got left out in the rain, disentegrated in transit, and all they had to deliver was the part of the box with your address. They admitted they misdelivered it, they should fix it. :grumpy:

I'm going to give it until Monday before I start dealing with it on my own. I figure with the note in his box maybe this guy's conscience will get the better of him and he will turn it in.

If not then I will file a complaint and I will start taking matters into my own hands.

And at 6' 8" and 260 lbs. I am pretty sure I am bigger and at this point definitely meaner.

If USPS knows that they delivered package, addressed to you, to a specific box incorrectly, there should be no problem and they should be obligated to retrieve it from that recipient and re-deliver it to you. If they ask for it back and the recipient refuses, I think that may be an actual crime (maybe Federal) like tampering with someone else' mail.

Man, dishonest people surely suck. Karma certainly works wonders however...garuntee you he already got bitten by his warden!!! Don't sweat it though man, you will get it back.

No Offense, & I can empathize with you about getting your knife but, I think waiting until the person;

1. gets the note
2. gets done with the weekend
3. realizes that he got the wrong package & has a chance to work it out.

May be the best thing.

The phrase "cooler heads prevail" comes to mind.

The post office made a mistake, they do that from time to time.
The person sending you the knife made a mistake by not insuring it, that happens also.

The person who got your package by mistake may not even know it yet.

I would strongly suggest not going to his address if you do not know who he is.

Give it a couple of days to work its self out.

My 2 cents.

David, I absolutely agree, and that is my normal method of operation. If, however, after sufficient time has passed, nothing happens, then I will take further steps.

Don't worry I am definitely not some fly-off-the-handle hot head.

Thanks for the advice.

Then get David to visit the other guy. I'm sure he can convince the other guy to be honest:eek:

Thanks for the positive comments guys, that's what I need to hear.

Good. You deserve some positive comments ... I know how bad I'd feel if I lost a Black Tie GW.

Now listen to Dave Brown. Another big man who has learned to control his temper.

This is what I though as well. If they know they took it to the wrong place, and know where they took it.

are you sure someone your size ought to be carrying around a weency little thing like a warden? :p:)

Exactly. This has absolutely nothing to do with insurance. They are responsible for the mistake. This happened inside their facility by their employees.

Insurance covers loss or damage. This doesn't really apply here. From what you said, it appears they admitted delivering it to the wrong box#. It's neither lost or damaged at this point if they have admitted the mistake.

Just my opinion here, and this isn't directed at anyone involved in your transaction, but insurance should be automatically provided by sellers with $$$ knive transactions. Include it in your price and post as such.
The "insurance optional" thing should be eliminated from sellers thoughts. I can see asking for Paypal fee's (if your not using the "personal" (fee free) tab) but insuarance should be automatic.
