A Rat Pick Tool?

Well, you could check for the INFI dimples if you feel like removing the coating with paint remover or something.

What is it supposed to be used for anyway?

It's my impression that it's not INFI until after the heat-treat. Perhaps it's a clipping that comes from a Busse, but not given the full INFI heat treatment- just a purely adequate one. Just my thoughts...

Cheers,
BJB :D

That makes perfect sense. Here's the initial description of INFI from the Busse site:

INFI is a proprietary steel and heat-treat protocol developed by Busse Combat Knife Co. It is ONLY available through Busse Combat.

While I agree that it certainly makes good financial sense for Jerry to use every last bit of INFI stock and scrap he has, it would be strange not to describe the scraps as INFI. Given how the Hogs will buy just about anything Jerry offers in INFI (and I would too, if I could afford it :) ), I'd think if it were INFI it would be labeled as such. That it could be the same steel, but without the complex heat treat, seems very plausible to me. The similarity to the Meaner and Leaner Meaner profile is very convincing as well.

If Shomer declares that it's INFI, then the cat's out of the bag as to who made it, which would defeat the purpose of their nondisclosure agreement.

I use it for those occasions when it isn't a great idea to ruin a knife by prying or digging with it.

I carry it and never seem to stop finding new uses for it.

Now, can you tell me about INFI Dimples? I am not fluent is Busse lingo.

I might just remove some coating to prove something.

In this thread Jerry Busse claims (or just jokes?) that they intended to make a less leaner meaner "Porky Parkway" --in 3/8" just like this pick of the same profile:

Makes me wonder if they are making some now and that is where the scrap is coming from. Right thickness, right shape, right coating.

Any thoughts?

Sorry if this is out of left field, but isn't the pick (or something similar) pictured here on the Busse table at Blade 2004? I think it might be the product on the fourth from left yellow display. Whatever it is, it's awfully thin... Just a thought?

That is the NIP (Nuclear Ice Pick). Pictured here and still currently available at the Busse Company Store...

The fact that they are believers in the high performance pick/tool is the some of the best evidence that your ShomerTec pick is from Wauseon. I must admit that you have a good fit against that Meaner Street. I have been thinking of getting a NIP as they are wrapped by Wally Hayes. Sweet bottle opener on the back as well. I don't even drink and it is hard to resist. :D

Were they any cheaper then?

Does anyone have a good picture showing the entire pic?

Thanks.

Been sick and not reading postings here, but it sure is nice to have been right. A Rat Pick indeed!

The pick remains undamaged by anything.

To the credit of the Swamp Rat company, I should mention that I wrote to them before posting what I suspected and they had no objection at all to my posting it.

RatHead.

RatHead!

It's good to have you back!

That was a great catch, indeed! I figured that they put you on the payroll after finding them out like that. ;)
