I thought this might be the best way to explain my delay in posting why I haven't made anything except short and generally personal posts up until now.... :o

Marylou I finally got home hopefully permanently last Sunday but wasn't really fit to answer until now, today, January 28th - 29th 2010.... :(

I temporarily arrived home from Meadow Brook Specialty Hospital the 18th of January, the reason I say it like that is because they had me overloaded, sent me home, with high powered pain meds and I wasn't myself....
Under and with my consent Barbie took me to the "St John Med Ctr." Emergency Room, Saturday the 23rd around noon where I was released under the care of my Primary Care Physician on Sunday 24 hours later, already had a previously established appointment with him the following Wednesday 27th January with an already previously established appointment with my Neurosurgeon on January 25th. :-)
You probably didn't know but I was sent too Meadow Brook Specialty Hospital on December 10th from Tulsa Spine and Specialty Hospital after it was felt they had helped me as much as they had been able too.... Meadow Brook did an excellent job on getting me at least rehabilitated to the point where I had been at least before my surgery if not better!!!!

Marylou you mentioning Reuben not wanting too eat, the same thing had been going on with me and had been for quite some time before I went in for surgery at Tulsa Spine and Specialty Hospital and when the dieticians first heard of me refusing my meals because of not being hungry or wanting too eat they suggested one of the nutrition drinks that come in a sort of milkshake form. They kept Chocolate, Strawberry, and Vanilla flavors on hand as well as one known as Buttered Pecan, which was good, but I still preferred Chocolate although I wouldn't turn the Buttered Pecan down if they already had it opened, ;-) although I'd still ask for a Chocolate to go along with it.... ;-)
All of the hospitals carried the "Ensure" brand, in spite of me preferring the "Boost" that Barbie brought me in. I also prefer it over ice because it seems a lot colder too me!!!!
The nutrition drinks provide everything needed for a full meal and I believe they've helped me lose weight as well as I'm now down too 229 pounds and I haven't been that lightweight since Barbie and I were first married!!!! :-) :-) :-) That's a total of 50-52 pounds lost in the last 2 to 2-1/2 months!!!! It's a helluva way too have to lose weight but I'll take what I can get. :p ;)

Monday when I had my 12:15 appointment with Dr. Gaede and finally got in around 2:00 somethin we had it set up to see Dr. Anthony, my pain management physician and Sheila, his Nurse Practitioner as well to see about all the high powered meds another physician at Meadow Brook had prescribed for me and how they fit in with the ones Dr. Anthony and Sheila had prescribed for me as we all felt them too be way too high as did all the other physicians that saw what had been prescribed for me!!!!

More later:

.... :)

Hope it lets up on you out there!

Been a pretty mild spell over here, although it is back in the single digits the last couple of days. The week or two of 30's almost felt like spring!

Starting our 6th winter here.

Don't know what the plans are for your rehab, but if you ever get to the point that you can use them, or for any one else out there, I'm having some success and help for my back with Kettlebells.

Actually, I'm only using one right now. I get a good workout in very little time, and it is making a difference in how I feel, and my wife can actually see my back getting straighter. I came across these while researching the p90x system, which I decided to pass on.

I've taken it slow, because the form and posture of the exercises are very important. For some reason, it seems to work for me, ie., I am actually doing it on a regular basis. I need to add to the work load, and mix in some cardio, but if you really get into this type of exercise, the cardio is built in.

I'm not sure about posting links, but "Enter the Kettlebell" has been a good read, and very helpful. The fact that the implement is very much like the Mosin Nagant doesn't hurt either! Simple, rugged, and Russian!

hang in there Yvsa! Glad you are able to even use a mouse, let alone worry about its emotional condition!

:D

Definitely glad to hear you're home and feeling better. It's the "little" things like that, that really matter.

I've been itching to get some kettlebells, for a while now; they seem perfect for my exercise needs. I have successfully done some of the exercises with some 20- to 25-pound dumb-bells, borrowed from a neighbor, but it's not quite the same.

I have one 20 pounder right now, the biggest walmart had. probably a good weight for me, although most sources recommend 35lbs for men to begin with. I might go up in weight soon, but the good ones aren't cheap! The shipping is killer, if you have too that route. You will probably see them on hand at the better sporting goods chain stores.

Take care,

Tom

Great to hear from you, Yvsa!
Kat and I are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. :)

Glad to see you around Yvsa!!

Graver... I did a similar workout routine WAY back when I was in the fire department. I'd pull early morning (2:30 - 5:00 a.m.) alarm room watches and work out with a 25lbs dumbell and do calisthenics too. Dang if that didn't get me in real good shape! Better than any gym. I might give the kettlebells a try. I've got to get back in shape or I'll be in an early grave :P
