A long time knife nut, but I am new to Busse knives. Not sure how I managed to go this long without becoming aware of this apparently very high quality knife.

Anyway, found this knife on this web page:

http://www.geocities.com/willjan1128/BUSSE/BUSSE.html

I did not see this knife on the Busse home page and am wondering if this is a real Busse or some sort of "replica" ?

Don,

The Basic line is genuine Busse Combat and they are now discontinued and getting harder to find.

The blades are made of modified INFI instead of INFI in the standard line and the handles are of a different material. I believe the Basic line was introduced to bring Busse Combat blades to the market at a lower price-point. Cheaper = more buyers...more buyers = more Black Label for Jerry. :D

Don,

Welcome to the Busse Forum! Brian is right. Not only is that a real Busse but that it is a pretty good price. I've seen them selling for around $150 and the get bought pretty quickly. I think I remember Andre saying that the Basic 3 is one of his favorite utility blades. I've got a Basic 9, my poor man's Battle Mistress, that has been used extensively and it is still going strong. Great knives, incredible value (price/performance=amazing).

Don,
Welcome to the Busse Forum. Glad you stopped by :D

These guys won't steer you wrong. That is one of the Discontinued Basics, slightly different steel than used on the Combat Grade line, but they are incredible knives.

The Basics have always been extremely popular. Some of the reasons are because they use a great steel, they have a great handle(Respirene C) and they are made by a great Company.

I hope you stick around and join in our discussions.

Thank you, gentlemen! Good to hear it's the real thing 'cuz I ordered the Basic #3. Still hard to believe I hadn't heard of these knives before now..oh well...continuing education of the knife nut..I've been so involved in slipjoints recently I've blocked everything else out.

My next question should be, what is the difference between Modified INFI and Combat Grade INFI ?

Welcome to the Busse forum! Let me second Eric's invitation to stick around and join our discussions.

INFI performs slightly better than M-INFI, but in field use, I really doubt you could notice the difference.

Eric, thank you for the information on INFI.

Received an email from WorldWideKnives from whom I had ordered the Basic3...said it is now on backorder (like the rest of the Basics!) Well, at least when I checked back they had changed their webpage to indicate the B3 was not currently available.

So, I ordered a Satin Jack CG from the Busse website...Yipppeeeee!!!

Don,
Welcome to the Busse forum and congrats on your SJ. It's one
of my favorite Busse's.:D

Chip...I went to your webpage and now I have a couple of questions. What is a "variant"? Also, I noticed MANY different types of Busse knives, however, there aren't nearly that many on their website..??

And I hope I'm not getting too personal here, but I only looked at the first 2 pages and there must've been over $7000 worth of knives...how do you fit this into your budget?! Are you a dealer or just a collector? If you are a collector is there a secret or are you just rich?! Can you tell I'm jealous?

Hi Don,
Welcome to the forum.

Chip is just R-I-C-H $$$$$$$ ;)
He's the only person I know that can aford a Quad grind Busse:D

The SJ is also my favorite knife of all my users too.

Don, welcome to the most addictive forum on the W3 :D The basics were(are) a great line of Busse knives. Some of the most important information has already been posted here, but there are tons of people here that can share personal experience stories of their Basic knives :)

So, I ordered a Satin Jack CG from the Busse website...Yipppeeeee!!!

Isn't it great how things work out in the end Don?:D

Congrats on the taking the plunge, the Satin Jack is an awesome blade:cool:

Don, I would be a lousy Busse dealer. I don't sell them. LOL:D
As to being rich, far from it. I'm just lucky I guess, in the right
place at the right time.;) I'm probably one of the lightweight collectors. 1whobuys and Eric are the RICH guys!!!:p

All the variants are, are regular production blades with little changes from the Master, Jerry!!!:D I guess
you would call them custom productions.;)

Eric, Andrew and others have steered you right. The Basics are great users. The Modified INFI is fine and the handles are uniquely functional and comfortable. You will not be sorry.

Welcome aboard ... I see you are hooked!

I counted 'em up last night..I have 197 knives; 185 of which I am willing to part with. Will make a nice start for my Busse Knife Fund.

Besides the Busse website, what other sources for these knives have you found? Could not find even ONE on Ebay!
