I encourage anyone who needs a hard use knife to enter these are great knives and pieces of history.
The thing that always got me was that these were HMS standard issue yet they were made with HCS blade that were prone severe oxidation yet all the ones I see and even the one I have, had a deep patina with very little rust.
Jack, what was the SOP for being issued one on board, was using it in the galley of the ship part of the process to get a durable patina that could stand up to the rigors of life at sea? Peeling potatoes and cutting up food what developed the patina?
Good luck to everyone entered, thanks for the generous giveaway but alas, I too must say, "not an entry" as I have one already and I can attest to the fact that it's in a class all by itself on the backspring scale.
Just wanted to ask my question and this thread reminded me.
