A really tough stainless fixed blade?

The F1 is a nce knife unfortunately the blade is under 4" so it doesn't meet the criteria set above.

Whether or not Infi pits less than ATS34 it will develop corrosion a lot quicker.
For ATS34 to start pitting means you let corrosion develop and did not attempt to treat it for an extended period of time.

Aren't the Beckers 0170-6C?

Yes, and the Swamp rats are SR101, but 0170-6C is AFAIK a modified 52100 steel just as SR101 is 52100 with Kr added.

The F1 blade length is not much under 4" (it is 3.8) and works well for jobs where I would use a 4" blade. For me the handle is a little thin. I wrapped mine with some leather lacing.

I would still recommend the Fallkniven F1 although its blade is slightly shorter than 4 inches. Laminated VG-10 is pretty good stuff. I have big hands and the handle of the F1 fits okay. I would prefer micarta to the rubbery stuff but, overall, it's an outstanding knife. I use it a lot more than my big blades.

Or you could just get the S1, 5" blade.

Is Carbon V also some form of 52100?

Carbon V is also a modified form of a rather common non-stainless steel, but I don't remember which one (52100 or 1080 or something similar).

Angelus1781,

Try contacting Justin at www.rangerknives.com He can make you a good, tough (for stainless) knife out of ATS-34, S30V, or similar steel. Or most any other steel, too, but those are popular stainless steels.

From Joe Talmadge's Steel FAQ:
"0170-6 - 50100-B These are different designations for the same steel: 0170-6 is the steel makers classification, 50100-B is the AISI designation. A good chrome-vanadium steel that is somewhat similar to O-1, but much less expensive. The now-defunct Blackjack made several knives from O170-6, and Carbon V may be 0170-6. 50100 is basically 52100 with about 1/3 the chromium of 52100, and the B in 50100-B indicates that the steel has been modified with vanadium, making this a chrome-vanadium steel."
