A reason to dislike liner locks besides strength

maybe i'm a "newbie", so to speak, but i always close the knife w/ two hands; have never found the need to close a knife that rapidly.

i HAVE found the need to open rapidly, however....prefer the spyder "hole" but best one i've found yet is kershaw ram...very quick and smooth.

always learning from you guys!

I've hit the top of my thumb nail a couple times, but no blood yet. Liner locks take too long to close, I guess I'm just too spoiled by my AXIS knives and my Para.

this may sound like a stupid question, but why is it important to close the knife fast?

thanks

I have never had any issues with a liner lock. I did almost cut myself, but it was because I was being pestered by people at the same time I was closing it.

While I was sharpening my Endura with my DMT Aligner clamp, the blade accidentally (barely) swiped my finger, and it started bleeding quite a bit. I was laughing in amazement at how little it took for so much bleeding to occur.

I got my styptic pencil (the kind you use for shaving), touched it to the cut, got it as deep into the cut as possible. It stopped bleeding instantly! This probably isn't recommended for deep cuts.

It's a personal preference I guess. I like being able to close a knife in one swift motion. While I can normally get to where I can disengage a liner lock pretty swiftly I still find myself having to fumble a bit every once in a while.

I guess if you're in no rush to get your knife out to accomplish a task (not tactical ) you won't be in any rush to put it up either.

i sold a guy at work an old spring assisted cheapo linerlock that i kept cutting myself on but not the blade, the lock! i kid you not, the liner was sharper than the blade take a look for yourself

i hate liner locks also, been cut twice in one day with my spyderco.

I do not dislike liner locks at all.

You just need to be careful & pay attention.

yeah i've cut my self with liner locks... but thats because i only do my knife tricks with my liners

Hi,

As a lefty, I've never been bit by a liner-lock or a frame-lock. Sometimes it's good to be sinister.:D

I am not that sure that a liner lock is the problem here. Maybe just the fact that is a folder and that by a folders nature ya gotta get your fingers out of the way when you close it. ;)

Generally, yeah, liner locks don't provide as tight or secure a lockup as a frame. Not all of them though. Take the ZT0350 for example, .07" liner. And try out Liquid Bandaid if you don't like shooting superglue into an open wound. :) I've cut myself plenty on frames...but the worst one was becuase I was quickly trying to close my leek left handed while being unexpectedly assaulted by my little sister. :/

Slow thumb = user error. My thumb's been slow a few times -- I generally don't bleed as a result rather I slice a very thin bit off my the end of my thumb. :o

As for trusting liner locks -- like any other lock I trust them if they're well made. But I always keep in mind that any lock can fail. If you need a fixed blade then use a fixed blade.

I use to have normal looking hands until I bought my first liner lock, and I keep promising myself each time I lose a finger, I 'll get rid of it.....
