A restored mammoth tusk

You are correct , I know African Bulls are larger, for some reason I remembered incorrectly that the Cows were larger with Anicent Mastodons.———————That’s one heck of a Tusk!

Ummm... not to nit-pick you to death, but this is a mammoth. Mammoths and mastodons are different, we had them both up here. The mammoths were much larger than the mastodons. These two tusks could only have been mammoths.

To some people, my wife included, I am waaaayyyy more anal about this stuff than I should be. "mammoth shmammoth... mastodon shmastodon..." I apologize for the analizm but I just can't help myself.

I buy them mostly from native people but also from miners and people that move a lot of dirt in their occupations like road construction and gravel pits.

Here's a picture of the 11 1/2 foot tusk. It went to South Africa of all places. Incidentally, it was the patriarch, the males were much larger than the females.

No need to apologize, Thanks, I enjoy learning about almost all topics.——————— Especially wildlife past & present .. I’m the same way about other animals. Like Primates. Like when someone calls a Chimpanzee a monkey! I always inform them that a Chimp is a Greater Primate/Ape, not a Monkey!

Beautiful work. Interesting that your method is very close to the one I learned for refinishing high end wood. I used to have jars of sawdust on the shelf...

Piece of Cake?????
That would be one hard chewy cake :D
Amazing work. Astoundingly beautiful result.
Cheers.
