A Sad Announcement

I’ve been thinking about Gus over the past year+. We were friends on Facebook in addition to BF. Besides knives, we shared a great love for dogs and had many discussions about his dog grooming shop. I even have a dog who I named Gus, as I wanted my new pup to have a strong male name. Strong, yet gentle.

A decade or more ago, I had purchased my first really nice set of kitchen knives through Gus. He had recommended the Henkel's Pro “S” starter set for me. I have since added to it, and it will always be Pro ”S” knives for me. I think of Gus whenever I use them, which is pretty much everyday.

Just this past week I had sent Gus a PM via Facebook, to check in on him. It had been a long time since I had heard from him. Today, I decided to do a Google search on Gus as I had not heard back. I do that on occasion when I have been out of touch for a long while with a friend.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Gus’ passing. The Bastid was my favorite Mod on BF. We were not the closest of friends, but friends nonetheless.

Thank you, GigOne, for sharing the information about the services.

It is with a heavy heart that I report that my good friend and co-moderator, Gus Kalanzis, (aka "Bastid"), has reportedly passed away.
To say that this is devastating to me personally is an understatement. He was a shining example of what a good person should be.
He and I moderated this forum together for several years before mutually agreeing on turning the reins over to Frank and Gary, and getting Spark's blessing in doing so.

I have written a short remembrance in the Community forum and wanted to invite you to it. Traditional knives were one of his great passions...as were his dogs.

Thank you. Please spare a good thought for my friend.

A sad day for all.
Condolences to his family.
