A sad/infuriating day of loss

This morning I had my XL Voyager in my front pocket when I woke up. By 8 AM it was missing.

I can't figure out how it went missing. Nor can I figure out where it went missing, as I haven't gone anywhere today that it could fall off at, without simultaneously being found. I've retraced everywhere I've been today, my family has assisted in the search, and it's nowhere to be found. If it were just the knife itself that went missing, it not being found could be understood, but it had a bright neon green lanyard on it, meaning it should be easy to find since it would stick out like a sore thumb.

Now I have to buy a new one.

Bummer! I had to check to make sure mine was there. You would think with its massive size it would be nigh on impossible to lose, but sadly no. I have sworn for many years the Twilight Zone exists and has too many of my things in it, no other explanation fits.

Replay the movie in your head of ever step you took leading up to seeing it gone.

I've has a few knives pickpocket themselves out of my pants and onto something else via the clip when I brushed by them.

You took it out and left it where? That unexpected spot, next to the, on top of the...

that knife is too large to loose.

Look for something else and then you'll find your knife. This has happened to me several times. I think it is true because you're looking in areas you didn't search in when you were looking for the knife. I hope it works for you.

Maybe after it fell out of your pocket you accidentally kicked it under the bed or other piece of furniture. Get a flashlight and look again.

About the time you get the new one broken in , the old one will probably show up ! ;)

Then I'll at least have a spare.

Ain't it the truth. How does something the size of Texas just up and disappear?

I've already done that. Three times and nothing.

I haven't taken it out of my pocket all day. There was no way for me to set it down.

You know that. I know that. The knife knows that. But somehow it happened, and was dead silent.

I've been trying that since this morning.

I've been looking under every piece of furniture and debris, inside and outside.

Mine fell out of my pocket and down into the guts of my recliner once. Come to think of it, many of my knives have taken that trip, depending upon which pants or shorts I'm wearing... Meanwhile, my XL Voyager is in my short’s pocket (not those shorts) as I sit in said recliner and type this and ... yep, it's still there. Like you, I'd hate to lose that sucker. May the Force be with you in search for yours.

Boring anecdotal story of commiseration (or maybe not really, since it involves a Spyderco): I once lost a Spyderco Tenacious. I looked for it for days, weeks, months, all to no avail. I bought a new one. About a year and a half or two years later I climbed up a ladder to adjust speakers atop a computer cabinet and lo and behold, beneath an impressive layer of dust, lay the missing knife.

Once again, may the Force be with you...

Considering the time frame and that you never left the house ~

Not to be accusatory but I was one of these kids once upon a time - (assuming you have children - up to age 13 or 14) did you look squarely in your child's eyes and ask...

Sometime when you (the kid) realize the ruckus you have created, it is pretty hard to volunteer that you are the cause. Just sayin'

I don't have any kids, so they can't be suspects to accuse. Which is a crying shame because I need to work on my humorous interrogation techniques.

Chairs and couches are voracious predators but it takes them a really long time to digest, I have found many lost items in the creases!

The worst part is you can't say now I can upgrade, no upgrade for that IMHO just replacement.

Always sux when u lose it but awesome when you find it a few months later. Atleast without kids u don’t have to worry about the safety aspect of it. Also it’s in the house somewhere, better than in the woods, pond, street, etc. Stay optimistic my friend.

Nice one from Cold Steel Knives Cold Steel Knives !

So here's the thing and this is why folks find eyewitnesses highly unreliable. If you are sure it was in your pocket and you're sure you checked everywhere you went then it wasn't in your pocket in the morning. What your brain is doing is filling in the blanks with persistent images from your memory but not from the day in question. It's a rerun.

You'll have to rewind further.

did you do laundry ? check the laundry basket ? if you went in and out of your car check between the seats console and sills.
