Please forgive these quick 'n dirty photos. This blade and a couple of others will be going out to Coop tomorrow.

9 1/8" 1084 blade. Total length 14 1/8". The fittings are mosaic damascus with a black pearl finish. Thin shims of pure nickel separate and highlight the spacers. The handle is extinct Stellar's Sea Cow bone, one of my favorite materials.

There was some discussion awhile back about the practice of leaving a radius in the handle where it meets the spacer material. I have been doing this for years with most of my bowies. It is elegant IMO, and negates noticable shrinkage at the junction that might otherwise show in a flush fit.

Hope you all like her!

Another real beauty from one of the top-notch Mastersmiths.
Look at the shot from ricasso to handle , that's fine detail work.

Terry, you should put up a website.

I really like that extra notch at the end of the swedge. That's a very nice touch. The guard and ferrule/spacers look fantastic. I also like the look of the seacow bone handle.

Mr. V has made some of the cleanest and nicest knives I've seen here. The guard/spacer work is always eye catching.
Good work Mr. V!

beautiful! i am very impressed! i hope to see more of your work in the future!

best regards,
hans

I don't care for sea cow, but anything would look good on that beautiful bowie. The notch backing the swedge is a nice touch, the fitting material and execution is outstanding.
Always like the beveled handle material at the spacer transition.

Your knives are very impressive.

A third on the notch behind the swedge. I'm planning to do something similar on my next one. But I'm really likin' all the details to the shape of that guard.

Beautiful use of Sea Cow - I love it!
Is the handle mortised? Or is the Sea Cow in one piece?
By the way, PERFECT proportions!

That's a very elegant looking bowie. I like the sea cow bone. The Damascus and shape on the guard really set it off.:thumbup:

Thanks for the kind words everybody. I am currently working on a website but we want to be careful that this doesn't become a business. Wouldn't be nearly as much fun! I'll see a bunch of you at the Fall Piney Woods Hammer-in in a couple of weeks.

Karl,
Yes, it is a mortised joint bonded with Acraglas. I've broken handles off and I can attest that it's solid. If I'm lucky and hold my mouth just right, you can barely see a seam.

Bruce,
Come on down for my yearly hammer-in in February. You're still on the mailing list!

Cheers,

Terry

Wow Terry, really nice. That seacow bone is beautiful. I like the damascus fittings.

Kind regards,

Jos
