A Sea Cow Bowie

Everything about that bowie is appealing. Great lines, clean grind, stylish guard and cool handle material.

Wow Guys! Thanks for all of the compliments. I really appreciate it. Makes that extra time a maker puts into the piece well worth it. I've heard it said (paraphrased) that "the difference beween a good knife and a great knife is about three hours." For me it's more like 20!

I forge to shape then rough grind on the Bader. From there it's round files, draw-files and sandpaper. I use A LOT of sandpaper! I used to be a pretty fair grinder on the Bader but with every passing year I use it less and rely on more handwork. Now I'm a lousy grinder. Hard to make really big mistakes with sandpaper:) It's a long process but in the end I'm happy. Bladesmithing is not my business. It's my hobby, albeit a serious hobby. So I don't worry about how many hours it takes from start to finish. For me, much of it is about the journey.
