A serious discussion about hand-file lubrication?

I have read that about Boggs.

They do a sort of waterjet cut and "hollow grind" the teeth.

Maybe I'll take a stack of files and send them off to see the results.
 
If you wish to prevent corrosion without using a lube or oil on your files, look into "vapor phase corrosion inhibitors". Old time machinists kept blocks of camphor in their toolboxes to prevent rust, but there are also more sophisticated modern options available that don't smell quite as much and supposedly perform better. I have been using this method for some years now with no significant corrosion issues, but my current shop is much less humid than my previous one was so that may be a factor as well...YMMV
