A Sheffield-made Woodcraft Knife

Well that mitering is certainly a bit cruder than I imagined, but I like that its a hidden tang too.

Thanks for the extra pics old bean.

Again, I think this is a really interesting find

Thanks pal, yes it's definitely a rough-use knife! I just gave it a quick tickle while I was in the kitchen cooking, and I think it's going to sharpen up just fine

Great piece of craftmanship, Jack! I really like the wood handles. Is this a fullintegral construction?

However - it has been used hard but well and not abused. :)

Neat knife with an interesting bladeshape. I hadn't seen anything like it until now. Thanks for sharing, much appreciated!

Great find, Jack (love the old Marble's poster too). Can you tell what the handle is made out of?

Thanks :) The handle's a dark, hard wood, which is put on as two scales. Certainly pretty tough, as it looks like it's had nearly as many bashings as the pommel!

Actually the wood isn't that dark at all, was just absolutely filthy! It's got a smell to it, but I can't quite place it (nobody say "Hard work" please! :D) I'm trying to clean it up and sharpen it, while still allowing it to retain as much character as possible. Of course that's hard to do, some of the character will be lost inevitably along with the dirt.

Yes, I think the tang goes all the way through Andi. Be interesting to know how wide it is.

Thanks. I've also not come across one before, nor can I find any further info about it.

the bolster and pommel look like babbit metal cast in place after the wood scales were attached - could that be?

Yes, I think the bolster and pommel have been cast on afterwards. I'll try and take a couple of close-ups. Well-spotted :)

Arise, ye dead pictures, and LIVE AGAIN ! (Not quite. Same model but different example.)

I was very surprised to see this thread pop up again! Sorry about the missing photos (hosted by Image Shack) :(

Thanks for posting your knife here Thomas, it is great to see it, and it is in far better condition than my own :)

Certainly a trip down Memory Lane Duncan! :D Thomas found a nice knife :)
