A Short Rant

Sorry to be ignorant here, but what exactly is the law in Illinois that prohibits carrying a knife?

At the risk of self-incrimination, I'm pretty sure I've carried both fixed and folders through Illinois.

The only time I don't have a knife is on a plane.

No, you CAN carry a knife in IL, but not in certain places that have medal detectors such as the Lincoln Museum (if I recall they have one?) and the St. Louis Arch.

I lived in IL for several years until I had my daughter and decided it was time to raise her "down home" so I moved back to TX. Believe me, as soon as I got here I got my CHL and burnt my F.O.I.D. card.

I'm looking forward to seeing friends again but like was mentioned, I wish Chicago would just become it's own state and let Illinois govern itself!

I know my PUG could be easily hidden, but I'd hate to chance it. I suppose I could always use a fanny pack and be "six seconds from safety"

You absolutely can carry a knife at the Gateway Arch, at least you sure could last year. They have a sign up on the front entrance to the arch regarding weapons and I took a look before attempting to enter. It specifically says no assisted open knifes, and even mentions Kershaw and a couple other brands as assisted blades. Other than that I believe it said no knives over 4", regardless this is what I had on me:

The CRKT Hawk DOG, with a 3.5 inch blade. I went in and tossed it, my keys and change in the little plastic bin and they x-rayed it all (why they had to x ray that stuff made me laugh a little) and they picked up the knife and opened and closed it, two of them did this, and then they gave it back and said have a good time and let me in. I also could not clear the metal detector no matter what while going through it, they asked me to pull my pants up to see my ankles, then let me in. No problems. I might not have tried if I had even known there was something under the arch, we did not know and walked up to see it and discovered the entrance and I was figuring on a long walk back to the car to drop off my knife, but was pleasantly surprised. And, now we know there is something under the arch! :) Spur of the moment trip and we did no looking before we went over there, we were going to the zoo which was pretty nice there.

Regardless, there is (was) a sign before you entered if you want to double check. Made me laugh then my little Kershaw Chive was too deadly to take in but my DOG made it right in! :D

This was last summer, and I too had to cross IL with my pistol locked up in the trunk. I cable locked it and kept it and the ammo separate in the trunk. Sucks.

Sad part about Illinois is all the cops that I have met there think the laws for concealed carry are insane also. We do the Illinois Tactical Officers Association show every so often and all of those guys think the public should be armed! They tell me that the whole state is governed by what happens in Chicago. 99 percent of Illinois is like Alabama....good old country farm folks, but the idiots in Chicago make sure they have to live under Communism also.

My Wife is from Mattoon, Illinois. She refers to The Windy City as Shitcargo.

She ran to Maryland to escape Illinois...the girl is hardheaded but I'm glad she did that!

You guys can still count yourselves pretty lucky, I live in Canada!
Conceal carry doen't exist anywhere and all handguns are considered restricted firearms so you can only use them at government approved gun ranges.
You also have to get whats called an ATT (authorization to transport) wich basically states you can only carry your handguns in your trunk with a trigger lock and exclusivly from your house to the range and back (make a detour to the store or to get a buddy and you could be arrested)

I avoid places that don't welcome or want me there possessing a knife, or anything else "they" deem dangerous. I'm slowly being painted into a corner with that way of living.

Decatur isn't far from Mattoon. Did you know it is a town law there to forbid anyone from pronouncing it Matt-oon as in spitoon, rather the law says it must be Mat-toon as in platoon.

Just some useless trivia for ya

this is the best country in the world, I love it. And it is the best country in the world because we are constitutionally allowed freedom, it is our right. I wish that these Liberal A-holes would go move to any one of the many sheeple friendly countries and tell us how safe they feel. or better yet just move there and never talk to me again.

Wow! Illinois must be bad  to have fled to this state. Personally, I can't wait to move back to America.

You are entirely correct about the ATT in Canada and the classification of handguns as restricted weapons, but an Authorization To Carry (ATC) is issued in special cases. Those eligible must either be doing some kind of scientific research or must be a certified trapper working in a remote area of the wilderness for protection from animals. They are also rarely issued to armored car personnel. Ironically, this permit was created to aid abused spouses or women in danger, yet it has never been issued for such purpose. Once again, as stated many times before, the government of Canada prefers a dead woman, raped and stranged with her own pantyhose, over a living woman explaining to the RCMP how her attacker got a fatal bullet wound.:thumbdn:

That pretty much sums it up nicely.

Whenever you hear that Illinois Police do not support CC in the news, it's politically appointed Chiefs of Police and higher ups in administrations.

Most street LEO's support CC.

Be very thankful that you don't live here in the UK!

No firearms, no fixed blade knives, no lock knives, no folders with a blade length over 3", no combat knives, no device designed, modified or intended to cause injury....... you get the picture!

Naturally, these restrictions only apply to the law abiding citizens.......

Ugh.

To me, going about without a blade feel equivalent to going about without any pants.

I live in south Texas, I carry my gun and knife, and I dont think twice about it....Oh, I am a Federal Agent, but if I wasnt I would still carry.

That really sucks! I do not own a single knife that would be legal in the UK. What do the scouts do? I was in the UK with a scout group, and guess what: I had a knife with me, that was about 5 inches long (blade length) ... even the group leaders were taken aback a little. Imagine a small girl with a huge knife ... :D

It was a cheap blade, but I kept it very sharp at all times, so after a while everyone asked me if they could use my knife for this or that.

I don't even want to know what would happen if a kid of 12 years would do that today ...

Oh, and by the way, that blade is now illegal to carry in Germany too.
