The weather today was amazing, so that after church I packed my bag and went out on a short hike. I brought my camera, and of course my most loyal companion, the BK9.

Here's me trying to convince my wife that it's a good idea to join me on a 3 hour walk up the river on a Sunday afternoon. I was sadly unsuccessful.

This is the path from my house to the mountain and the valley southwards. I used a saw and the bk9 to chop and saw a way through where the shrubbery is dense.

Here's the view from the hill, you can see the little village I live in, and one of the churches where I work. My house is covered by the forest next to the church.

From the same position, just pointed southwards. I decided to have lunch by the riverside. I never been there when there's no snow.

The path down to the river was quite demanding. And the river side was overgrown of birch and shrubbery

I found an old and abandoned water power station. I decided to light a fire and have lunch there.

Here's the pipeline that goes down from a lake up in the mountain side, down to the station.

Despite of the bright sun, the temperature was around 3 degrees Celsius, I think that's equivalent of 37 Fahrenheit, so I needed a fire.

On the way home I saw some of our local wildlife

And when I got out of the forest, and into my village, I saw these guys sprinting around the fence of the cemetery. It's soon slaughtering season, so we wont be seeing reindeer before next spring.

And that was my short Sunday stroll!

Awesome stuff man. You live in a beautiful area. Wish it looked like that where I live.

Very nice! Looks like your wife missed out on an enjoyable day. Thanks for bringing us along. This may be as close as I ever make it to Norway. Thanks again!

Looks like a great hike. You live in an awesome looking area. lol its almost "slaughtering season"...Nice. How many can you get a year?

Absolutely stunning! Is your village primarily fishing based? Could you tell me about the outfit you are wearing? Looks classy as well as functional.....

My village was a sea-sami village, where the indigenous people of Finnmark, the sami, lived of what the sea had to offer. But after the state of Norway decided to assimilate the Sami, they more or less became "ordinary" Norwegian, sadly. The Sami who lived primarily of the reindeer, and were nomadic, they managed to avoid the state programs, but the sami who lived of the sea, called sea-sami, are not nomadic, they lost their language and their traditional ways.

In modern times my village was a fishing village, of some size as well. But when the large cooperation bought all the fishing rights, and decided to move their packing and processing facilities to China, all the fishing activities died out on my area. So large fishing vessel harvest the Barents sea, but we never see any fish, cause they ship it all abroad. So now my little village lives primarily of tourism and energy production (water and wind power), mining and reindeer trade.

And to, Azcountryman: All the reindeer in my area are owned by sami people, and they slaughter em each fall. So I'm afraid the day of reckoning is closing in on the reindeer in my pictures.

About the backpack, Silverthorn. It's a Maxpedition Vulture II, with some molle packs attached to it, one of which I "borrowed" from the army after the conscript service.

Here's an other pic of my outfit, Ironborn, and the individual pieces.

Very nice indeed, thank you for sharing. Makes me miss Living in the north.

Sad to hear about what corporatism has done to the local industries, seems to be a consistent theme all the world over.... Good to hear some of the Sami are maintaining their identity though--some good lessons there regarding mobility and economic independence....

If you dont mind my asking Loke, How tall are you, and how well does the Falcon 2 fit your frame? It looks like it fits you well, so I am trying to see if it would be a better pack for me than my Sitka, which is more of a commuter pack than a day pack.

Great stuff, thanks for sharing your trip and the history of the area. Looks like a great place to explore. Thanks for taking us!

I love hearing about the history of an area, and yours sounds no different. Thanks for sharing.

That is some beautiful countryside there, makes me really jealous that I live in the most densely populated area of my country. Nothing like that where I live sadly :(

Thanks for all the comments, guys. It's beautiful now, but when the snow comes, and the sun dissapear for a month, then the scenery changes quite a bit. Gotta enjoy it while the sun's still here.

Silverthorn: It's a Vulture II, not a falcon. And I enjoy the vulture II quite a bit, it's on the larger side for a day pack, with a lot of storage room, and lots of options. I'm sure there are some reviews out on youtube. And btw, I'm 183 centimeters :)

Looks like a great time. I love coming across old machinery like the water pump you found. We used to uncover so much old mining equipment from the early 1900's back In Pennsylvania. Sadly I never got any photos of the stuff.
