A simple lean too

Thanks for posting. I've been enjoying your threads.

Thanks all, I'm glad you enjoyed this. Imediately after puting it up I wished I had used a sapling instead of a piece of cord for the ridge. So...I left it up to see how quickly the cord just cut through it.

This pic is thirteen days later when I was asked to put a cut or tear in it to see if it would just rip like most "space" blankets will.

This pic is from 21 days in and as you can see, it rained hard enough to stretch it out of shape a little, but no tears in the tie-downs, there is still a dry area underneath, there are no holes from any falling debris, and the rip is still unchanged. At that point I was impressed.

This picture is from 37 days after I put it up, I never once readjusted the tie downs. I have kept some in my kits ever since.

So, in other words..if you had one and treated it with kid gloves...it might actually last 2-3 months...thats more than enough time to focus on a more permanent structure to shelter in! I am impressed. Is this the same brand the Siguy used in his videos???? Simon?

Hmm, glad I took the advice of another post a while baqck to add the ones I had to my kits and bags. Great item to have through all of the reviews I have seen. Great work!

Nice work, you have started out with great reviews, and great writing..I for one, am glad you showed up here in WS&S..on Bladeforums..the best of the best if you will.
Not to start anything, but some of this comunity owe you an apology...IMO.
Sorry if you had a ruff start, but I am glad you stuck it out, and I like your reviews. Gene

Quite the contrary...no one owes me anything. I actually learned a very valuable lesson in all that, the ones you think owe me an apology actualy did me a huge favor and save me some time in learning some things...though I think I'll keep what the lesson was to myself.

Glad you enjoy the threads.

Yes, I remember this too  Excellent review and pushed me over the edge with getting an AMK heatsheet. I remember being particularly struck with the simple common-sense displayed in creating your own tie off points with only the tarp and a rock or some dirt (and cordage). Good job Mistwalker :)

Thanks, yes you could use a rock but you'd want to make sure it didn't have any major sharp points, better to use a rounded creek stone.

Now be honest with us though...are you shilling for a string or debris making company or what?

Actually when I saw this review on the brit site (through a link somebody posted here a while ago) that's what motivated me to go buy an AMK heat sheet. It's a great piece of kit!\

Edit: I am joking. Afterwards I thought this might look like I'm stirring the pot but I'm just kidding around. I was already laughing when I typed this because I had just made my avatar and then ten minutes later I realized everyone else wasn't laughing just because I was!

I also have a friend in Florida who has done this with sand with good results also.

Funny you mention that, I grew up in hawaii and while beach camping, we used sand in this way to string up old tarps on which the grommets had long since been worn or torn out. :) Since the AMK material is a lot more flexible than that tarp material, I'm sure it would work even better

Actually I'm shilling for the craft of survival but I was hoping to keep that a secret :p

Would you mind posting a pic of your hatchet Mistwalker?
Brad

Lol, my old hatchet is sticking in a stump in the last pic of the first post...for which I think Magnussen was picking at me for.

I knew some had already come up with this, some things are just common sense ways of using elements of one's own environment.

I never was taught to baton wood....at the age of eight I called it "beating my machete through a piece of wood with a stick"
