A simple modification to a BRKT (Sharpshooter) sheath.

I took the time last night to crank this out. I darkened the leather of the original sheath a bit with some Neat's Foot Oil.

Then I tried to match the leather strips by dying them a light brown - with black edging.

I then stitched them on using the existing holes and I doubled up the stitching for a VERY secure fit.

The match is pretty good - but for whatever reason the next photo looks a bit off. You can see on the first and last picture how good the match is.

As you can see on the bottom picture - the vertical carry belt loop is still accessable and works well.

I LOVE this carry.

p.s. If you want something like this done - this is not a for sale thread - so PM me please. I don't want to break any rules.

I like that carry method too. Having both horizontal and vertical is a great way to go, and you could use the loops for cord or something. Could you incorporate this with your bushcraft design?

Cool modification!

Questions: Should you be worried about wearing/fraying/cutting the existing stitching when you double them up like you did? Did you take any special precautions? Is this something often done without mishap? I'm not busting your chops, I'm genuinely interested.

Wait till you see the one I am finishing up tonight for MY Bushcrafters...

OBWilson:

I don't worry about the stitching - I cut a channel for the stitches to hide and I cut little V's off the ends of the straps - You would have to TRY and fray those to the point where they would be unsafe.

Very cool TF. I might just have to have you make one like it for my bushcrafter in Fiddlebacks Run....

That's really good to know. Nice work!

J - Williams,

Hold of for a few days until I show you my new harness idea gleaned from these boards. It is sort of an H configuration that makes many different carries possible.

I will post pics as soon as I am done with it.

Hey, thats a great idea Tal. Modding existing designs can teach a person a lot about sheathmaking, and knifemaking too.

Mike,

1) I got it for a great price on these boards. 1Tracker had two for sale (a Mikro Canadian II) as well as this one. He needed to sell them quick - I helped with a package price.

2) You hit it SPOT on - it is my leather trim knife of choice right now. It is a LAZER beam and dead accurate. A little stropping after my cuts and it is ready for more.

3) I am a LITTLE dissapointed you couldn't I.D. it from the 1/2 inch of handle that was poking out. I think your getting soft on the BRKT's! ;)

:grumpy: I looked long and hard at your photos and could not figure it out.:o

The fact that there where only a handful made makes for a tricky ID.

I happen to have a 2008 Custom Pro Drop Point that was made as part of that series; they are great little knives, and that 50-100B strops up scary sharp.
