A skinny dog, a sterile mistress, and a fighting gorilla walk into a bar...

Great scores RCB, those are fantastic knives! Awesome back story as well, thanks for sharing!

1. Was this a custom order by YOUR specs?
2. That cut out behind swedge, was that done in order to make the knife thrust deeper or something?
3. Price and wait time? Please?

I like Dans work..every since seeing his Yt tree chopping vids..

Asking someone a question about pricing and then swearing at him on his profile page after he politely asks you to PM him for price instead of posting it publicly??? Wow, you are going to wear out your welcome here really quickly, that is a really terrible attitude you have.

I'd always thought of the 1111 as the "poor mans battle mistress", I think it was Legaleagle who first told me that. As you can see from the pics, he was pretty spot on.

So after measuring the ASHBM a bit, next to my 1111, I think I understand how a thicker blade can bite much deeper. I'll spare you too many caliper pics,, but here is a crude drawing of my findings.

Like the wise Resinguy has told me before "geometry cuts, geometry cuts, geometry cuts, what I tell you three times is true"

Someday I'll get around to sending the 1111 off for a reprofile,, I think it has A LOT of potential with a little regrind..

Cheers

The 1111 really is an awesome knife. I really like it's chunky feel and beefy blade, even if it doesn't bite the way it could. I pair mine with a saw for camping. The thicker geometry splits like a motherBEEEEEEEP and it certainly chops well enough for me to keep it around :)

That's a great little mock up you've made of the knives cross sections and observations on their ability to BITE! Nice work Ready Cooked Bacon

Oh don't get me wrong, that 1111 is no slouch as is!
Plus those shoulders should make it better at battoning than a flat ground blade, as well as add some lateral strength.

LOL. To give credit where credit is due ... 'Geometry cuts' is from Cliff Stamp, and 'what I tell you three times is true' is from Lewis Carroll, by way of Jerry Pournelle.

Really cool thread RCB. Thanks for the comparison pictures with the 1111, and congratulations on that Keffler bud

Imagine that 1111 with a full flat grind, or even just the original bevel transition knocked down significantly.

I just came back from the woods with the two of them, and with the work Ive already done on it, it is honestly a great chopper. I don't necessarily want to spend a lot of money getting it reground at the moment, but eventually it will be FFG. I'll bet it will be phenomenal..

Congrats rcb!! That ASHBM is awesome, and the Keffeler is just plain SWEET!!!:thumbsup:

I'm hoping to be able to get one of Dan's Katanas some day.

So I had a few hours yesterday, and this happened..

Not technically a FFG, but a scary sharp Full height convex, I'm actually a little scared of it

That looks great! Did you use your 1x30 for that?

Thanks!
I have a 4x36, which kind of already has a platen. I marked the blade with blue layout dye, went nice and slow and kept dunking the blade in cold water.
I took off the shoulders and thinned everything out, then finished everything on my worksharp.
All in all it probably took 2 hours.
I'll go knock around the woods with it today or tomorrow and post pics,, but I have a feeling its going to be a performer.

I'll lay money that it will indeed be a performer with what you've done. Nice job bud, looks great!

Thanks!

Couldn't have done better myself sir. I try to stay away from dykem, that stuff don't come off. Sharpie is where it's at.

Anyhow.

Awesome. I'm looking forward to your post on it's performance
