A slipjoint folder?

Hi folks,

It's been named in passing a few times, both here and elsewhere, but times change so I thought that a new mention might get some fresh interest and maybe hopefully even more - a new knife.

In recent times we have the pressures of locking knife laws in certain places with either a complete ban or the needing of a very specific reason for carrying a locking knife. And, of course, there are hundreds of thousands of people who simply love slipjoints for their own beauty and pleasure.

I can't help but think that a slippie from the Chris Reeve stable would be a superb addition. There's a monstrous following of this design and it is only going to get more popular or necessary as times move on. I would guess that it's nearly bound to be a winner.

Anyone else say YES! to this idea?

I would be all over a multi-bladed CRK. Imagine a stockman with snakewood inlays....O.K. now I am just talking crazy..a single blade would be amazing enough ......yeah its a great idea!!!!!!!

Nope, sorry. Don't doubt for a second CRK would make an awesome slipjoint, but I've got no need nor want for one.

The specific reason for having a locking folder is to protect your digits from an accidental closure. It's the same reason they invented strait knives.

If you go to the slip joint forum they will explain that the lock should never be used. If you are doing something to a knife that puts pressure on the lock ( in the reverse direction) you shouldn't be using a knife. Go get a prybaby or screwdriver. Of course some fixed blade knife guys think all folders are simply knives that are broken. (That may change when they get their folding izula) :).

by the way...I love ESEE knives. ( Not as much as CRK but still)

I would love something like that for my trips home to Scotland. I often just carry a Seb. any way but a non locking CRK is something I would buy for sure.

A single bladed slip joint sitting just under 3" or even a friction folder would be a very nice addition IMO. :)

If I saw CRK making a fully fledged multi-tool with pliers and that lot, I'd be all over it. Far as just a slipjoint goes though, not really interested.

so you're saying fixed blades were "invented" after folders?

not so much....

Good luck trying to have CRK even consider doing anything other than what they already planned on doing. If they didn't already plan on making a slipjoint then there will probably never be one. And you might even get attacked by forum members here on top of being ignored by CRK.

agreed, it is doubtful there will ever be one. or if there is, not at any time soon.

crk relies on their own ingenuity rather than the suggestions of customers. the scout conversion of the one peice skinner is a good example. but the insigno is an example, i think, of customers wanting a different blade shape.

i dont think they ignore anyone, necessarily. and i dont think the op will get flamed for his suggestion.

i would consider a crk slipjoint, and i think it would sell very well.

If they made one, i would sure consider buying it...however i doubt they will make one any time soon:D

It'd be sweet if they did a slippy umfaan. HOWEVER... instead of sheepishly going along with BS laws... why don't we just keep pushing for SENSIBLE laws? Why don't we show people the difference between implanted fear and rational thought? Fear of inanimate objects is fear of your fellow man. It really is that plain and simple.

I'd love to see Umfaan slipjoint and without the stud! We have great knife law in Poland (anything is legal) but I carry a slipjoit from time to time anyway. Makes perfect "office knife" :)

PiterM you beat me to it. A umfaan slipjoint with no stud
or lock bar would be awsome. You could add more inlay material
if there were no lockbar or picket clip. Imagine that little beauty with
mammoth bark or wood inlays with full coverage on both sides similar
to the Mnandi.
Ah....perfection.
.............and of course have it in BG-42:D I couldnt resist.

An Umfaan sized knife would be a good size for what most people want in a slipjoint. It certainly would get a thumbs up from me where the law here says a sub 3" non-locking blade.

If we're going to discuss any feature benefits I would choose the idea of a closed spine, as I could carry it in the same front pocket with loose change if that was the design.

While I appreciate things take time and a lot of work has to go into a new model and realise that decisions are not made on the basic of Internet conversations, I still feel that it's bound to happen sometime as there could be a case in the future, with the way things are going, of simply missing the boat. Hopefully I'll be around to carry one as I really would love to see a CRK slipjoint sooner rather than later :D

I would love to see a slippie CRK. I recently have grown quite fond of slippies again, but I love my CRKs too much. I would 100% buy a CRK slippie.

I would definitely buy a CRK slippie, but like others have said, I don't think they will make one - it's too far from their regular lineup. No insult intended, but they seem to do "variations on a theme" instead of brand new themes on a regular basis.

I'd buy a CRK slipjoint if it were thin and light. Something along the lines of Doctor's Knife but in Ti. I have a fair number of slipjoints and to be honest nothing feels as sweet as a nice smooth three position one.

It would probably not be an EDC blade for me unless something drastic were to change in my life. But I would definitely purchase one.
