A small knife for Kayaking?

Dive knife. Either the UK Fusilier, or the smaller UK Remora. Both work great in ocean diving. With any knife that's going to get wet a lot, especially in salt water, coat with a dab of food grade silicone grease.

Never use a lanyard.

Ditto a neck knife. Not good for diving, kayaking, canoeing, etc. Better to attach the knife to your vest.

Tasman Salt SE. Have had this on a few PFDs when I was working on the river every day and had to use it in two emergencies. Worked great and is much safer and faster to get out than a fixed blade when you take into account needing to have quick and easy access. Secondary retention FB sheaths tend to be cumbersome while kayaking and things will grab at the handle.

Here's a link to a sheath maker who will make a much nicer sheath than that blow torched POS I put mine in:

I agree about the neck knife lanyard. It might just get you in trouble (worst case drown ya) in a tough situation.

I used to carry a sak or my regular sak and realized just how hard it is to pull any pocket knife out of your pocket once you're soaked to the skin and perhaps struggling in the water. Yes, attach knife to your life vest and of course wear the vest.
