A small thing, but it brightened my day...

I didn't think he was being racist, but just to avoid some unnecessary flameups, I thought it should have been edited. Uncle Alan, I hope you didn't think I was accusing you of anything.

I used the term "African American" for quite a while, but my "African American" students refer to themselves as black, so now I do too.

Hole. Never did I believe anyone would be offended by the word negro .Spanish "negrito" literally means black doesn't it? This PC crap is confusing the way you go at it.
Incidentally we spell it raCIST here, Mr. interlocutator.

Uncle [ old harmless geezer ] Alan says " To all a good night " ! :D ;)

I didn't mean to sound like I was saying you were racist! I was just trying to give you a subtle suggestion since some people seem to get offended so easily. That's why I said it was a cute story! :) I'm sure that no one thought you meant it to sound rude at all!

Uncle Alan,

All I want to know is, are you sure you're not the kid's father? :p ;) :D

I felt very honored that he liked me so much that he was looking for work for me to do for him. He's an amazing, very intelligent, gentleman who spent 31 years serving our country in the Navy. That conversation made my month. I would have told him that he could just come and visit me, but I know he's too proud to admit that he's lonely now that his wife is ill. :(

Perhaps you could turn it around and tell him that you enjoy spending time with him. Then he would be the one who's honored...

Hello Senator,

I really can't think of a way that I could do that without looking unprofessional. I could say something like, "Well, you're always welcome to stop by and visit me." But, no one would take that seriously. I just don't think it would be professional to ask him to stop by because I enjoy his company. I can tell him to give me a call if he needs anything or if he has any questions. I tell all my clients that though. Perhaps I'm overthinking it. I have a tendency to do that sometimes. I guess I can just flippantly say, "Hey, you make sure you keep in touch okay. I wanna know how you're doing." Is that good?

Copying off of Uncle Alan, I'll sign my post

Jennifer- My guess is that he wouldn't care much about you looking "professional." If you sense he's looking for a friend, he probably is and would take you up on you "offer" to spend some time together. He sounds like he's still got a lot to pass on to someone, and you might just be the one. You've got nothing to lose, except perhaps a friendship. :)
