A solar cell in the larger kit

I have included a solar cell array with a very simple self built AAA battery holder on the end of the cell. This together with two rechargeable AAA batteries and a modified LED light has been added to my 4" cube volume kit (the extra kit I take to remote locations).
Just something I wanted to share.

BTW Rechargeable batteries don't hold a charge in storage and also are inclined to leak so they need to be checked frequently. If anyone can help solve this problem then please ...

Standardize your batteries... AA's are most common... store a good amount of batteries and use them sparingly. It's better than rechargeables that may fail. Alkalines should be rotated every year. Lithiums every 5 or 6.

If you must include a renewable energy source, consider a hand cranked generator that feeds the device directly, or the solar charger as a backup.
