Actually I have yet to hold a SHBM, but I was able to get ahold of a SHBA during a passaround last year and LOVED it....just not enough to spend the $$ to get one. I found that the main downside of the SHBA was that in a knife that small it only really allowed for one grip which I think is overly limiting in a smaller blade, but of little or no concern in a dedicated chopper.
From my perspective the fusion handle gave me "Busse pinkie", so I'm not a huge fan and which chopping with the straight handle should ameliorate. But I currently use the NMSFNO in the one knife/ chopper role because of the more open handle design. Also I think the NMFBM is just too darn heavy to hang on the pants all day, I have to "hitch" plenty with the NMSFNO. I was SERIOUSLY considering a B11- and still am because of the lighter weight.
Which brings me back around to the LBNMSHBM which I hope will:
Be lighter than the NMFBM because of the machined handle, though won't be as light as a B11.
Have a more open handle than the Fusion design so I won't get "Busse pinkie" while chopping. But also won't have the straight down SH "bird head" on the back of the old school handles, or if it does, since it will have a NM treatment it won't be painful to use for long periods...one could always have it modded though.
NOT have a large choil (a small choil for sharpening ease would be fine) so I can chop all the way back to the handle unlike the B11 or NMFBM
Be fully convexed like the NMFBM instead of the V grind, or asymmetric grind on the B11- Again the grind is easily enough fixed.
But seeing as though we haven't seen pics of this beast yet, I haven't jumped on a B11 which will be my secondary choice.
Until we get some pics I'll keep rockin' my Ontario machetes... and dreaming of a B15
