Got a new Subclaw last week. I prefer convex grinds so I touched up this little guy on my charged leather pads and, voila, I have a curved razor blade.

Opened an envelope yesterday by simply slicing the end off the envelope. Unbelievable! Tried the same thing with my Emerson LaGriffe to no avail. It would crush the envelope before it cut it.

The curved blade of the Subclaw is so good at slicing, it's a wonder the shape isn't more popular.

I keep wanting to get one of these Subclaws.......is it recomended for SD? Is it worth the 30 bucks or so? LOL

It is recommended for SD Sparky. It's kind of your call as to whether it's worth the asking price. I think I paid about $25 for mine and would do so again.

Thanks Daywalker!
Wow i never thought i would chat with the designer himself!
(This is why i LOVE this website! :))
Thanks Chad, i just ordered 2 and will have a report on them as soon as they arrive!
sweet.......

Well, "worth" is a relative word, but SD on the other hand...check HERE

Yea, this is one heck of a knife packed in a tiny package.
Another advantage is that it doesn't look much like a knife, clipped on a belt.

Still waiting for the Chadarambit in the US!

I love my Subcom, black with 50/50. Never have I held such a small knife with such a big feel. I mean this knife has b$%&s.

I have the Emerson LaGriffe but recently I've been thinking about getting
a couple of subclaws to give to family members.

Mr. Daywalker what is your opinion on the Subclaw as a defensive blade
for women?

Also, why are serrations not offered on the Subclaw

Thank you

God bless

I don't mean to speak for Chad, but he provided this link that may help answer your question:

http://www.mercop.com/docs/bag14.htm

I'm sure he'll have something to add.

Bill

P.S.

I wish I could get my wife to carry a knife, gun, pepper spray....anything. However, she just does not have the self defense mindset. I think she'd rather be a victim than fight back or harm someone else.

Thanks Bill, I've read that article from the Mercop it's first rate. However, he doesn't mention anything about serrations on the blade.

Also, I know what you mean about your wife, because mine has the exact same
feelings on SD. She just can't get a handle on it either.

Thanks Daywalker!

Aloha Frangouch,

Ahhhhh, you got the "ABS"...ALL Black SUBCOM, eh? That model is very popular, and I would suspect, even more so were it available in a plain edge.;) Glad you enjoy that one!;)

Um, as Willieboy mentioned, a lot has to do with the "survival mindset". So a knife that is good for a guy, can also be wielded (sometimes better) by a woman. I don't play that, "This is better for women" thing...

In HELL, I have seen women that could probably beat the cr@p outta a lotta the male inmate population...BUT, when most female inmates fight, they almost always end up in a "hair tug of war" and using their free hand to punch, rake, claw, scratch...

That being said, the SubClaw IMHO, would be a natural for a woman with the proper mindset...

As for serrations...if they were to be placed on the likes of the 'Claw, they'd HAVE to be like the ones on the Black CE MPT: WIDE teeth to prevent snag. However, just think of the 'Claw as, "one large scallop" from a SE pattern.

God bless and mahalo much!

Need Scarrations on the Hyper, Trance, and M-Type IMO ;). Also black blades with tan handles :D:D.

I have been talking to Chad about the need for a SC trainer and I know he has told Boker. I also gave them an ear full at SHOT about it. We may see something soon, keeping my fingers crossed. I truly believe that the SC will someday achieve cult status like suck knives as the La Griffe, Buck 110 and CQC7. I really cannot think of a better SD folder for the ladies than the SC.

My preference is to use it with the scalpel grip. Using the same default targeting as IET my two preferred targets are the brachial and femoral arteries. Starting high inside the arm, sinking the claw in and ripping all the way down. The femoral is accessed by sinking the claw into the crease between groin and thigh and then ripping up.

He Chad,

I think it was Tobias who mentioned some time ago that due to the thickness of trance/subcoms/hyper blade being approx 2mm they can't put serrations on them.

The anglegrind of serrations demands thicker stock i think to prevent chipping/rolling as there is less mass behind the edge. It may also have something to do with production set up at factory.

How about the WHART/small warncliffe ? Any updates????

I for one would love an all black plain edged SubCom F. I am not fond of serrated blades but that is just me. Absolutely, awesome design who would ever have thunk such a small knife would be a viable SD tool. Did hanging around all those sneaky convicts have anything to do with it? Or is it natural brilliance? Either way sheer genius. Mine is my 24/7 money clip IMO the perfect weapon of last resort. Still all black would be sweet
