A Sunday Spent NOT Watching Television

Hi! Nice post and beautiful photos. I'm new here and still exploring the many rooms of BF Palace. This section is great :). I also believe it's good to teach the children the appropriate use of knives and tools and show them the mighty of nature and the beauty of wilderness. I think it fosters responsibility and self-reliance in them. I do the same with the three of mine.

One thing I joke with them about is when I was a kid, in the '80ies, the biggest punishment for me it would have been to be confined in my room and forbidden to play outside... nowadays it looks it's the opposite! :) The big punishment is to send them out playing and separating them from their smartphones, videogames, computers, etc. Luckily they like enough to be outdoor but still! I'll try to post some of our hikes here. Take care.

Boat, currently anchored off an island (for a few more hours). I was really enjoying pictures of land!

Yeah, my father was co-owner of a salvage company based out of Jupiter Florida back in the late 70s early 80s. He was a Marine and loved the ocean, but not seeing land for days...weeks at a time got old for me pretty quick.

Really nice pics. And it is great to see your daughter's enjoyment of being in the outdoors with her dad.

Thank you. I started taking her to the woods before she could walk good. She sort of sees it as a big playground :)

Looks like a great time! Can't wait until my little one can last an entire day outdoors!

Thank you, yes it was a great time. Yeah that's definitely something that takes time to build up to.

Hello! Thank you, and welcome to the forum. I think Blade Forums is awesome as a whole, but this is definitely my favorite section.

I agree. I think, as parents, it is very important for us to help them learn to respect and properly use all of our common tools. I think it builds their self reliance and promotes healthy levels of self esteem. I think with the balance of failures and successes they learn humility, perseverance, and also build their self confidence. I think it helps them get a better grasp on their place in the world. I much prefer to have my kids out with me, whether wooded or urban environments, actually experiencing life, to having them be at home staring at a plastic box watching someone else's pretend life.

It is that way everywhere now. They have so much more available to them now than I had as a kid. I like to take advantage of what is available. My daughter has the first computer in our household to have the Windows 8 operating system, and she has game systems. Those are all well and good for research and entertainment at the right times, but I refuse to just let her sit and veg out on them.

Please do, we love seeing the photos from other people's hikes.
