A good friend of mine, knowing what I like in a knife, sent me a very thoughtful gift.

I have always thought that I should spend my 'knife money' on knives, but after spending some time with this book, and the other Dr. D book I have, I'm going to splurge on Darom's new book about Tim Hancock- the section on Hancock in this book on fixed blades is reason enough!

Darom's books open worlds that even this forum can't access. I highly recommend that if you are having a hard time decided on a gift for any of your knutty friends, consider any of David Darom's books.

It's the gift that keeps on giving!

I just bought my first DDD book, this one in fact, and it will be waiting for me when I get home in Jan. I can't wait!

No one gives me gifts like that. :( Congrats Lorien. They books are great. I actually don't have the fixed blades one but I do have the other three from that series. Love them.

My 4th is on the way. :D

Pretty silly, they were all in my Amazon wishlist and my relatives ignored any knife-related stuff in there for years. I guess they don't want to be "enablers".

you're right about that, Keith:thumbup:

Hello guys and gal,

I too like my books, mainly for the reason that now I own several
knife books that I had wished to have all my life... Lucky for me
though, I got the chance to custom tailor them the way I dreamed
they should be.....

This is what happens when sometimes dreams do come true...

Lorien, I hope you got a copy of the original 1st edition high quality printing.

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

I don't know if it's 1st edition or not, but it's definitely high quality all the way:thumbup:

Lorien,

See if it says so on the bottom of the copyright page, and has
Saviolo Publisher on the spine of the outer cover. All other
printings were poorly done without my consent in China... AS
sometimes happens with a good product....:(

All the best,

I'm glad you posted how to tell David. I bought mine as new off E-Bay, so I suspect it is probably one of the knockoffs:( but I may get lucky. Either way I am still excited:D

John,

If you have not seen the original, you will still like the copy,
I am sure of that!

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Without a doubt I know I will love it David. Is this the volume the shows the makeup of a mosaic damascus billet by Conny Perssons? If it is I was able to thumb thru a copy once, but I'm still looking forward to this one!

Yes, Conny Persson has an 8 page section in my Fixed Blade book..... An awesome display too... Enjoy!

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

I've only just flipped through the book fairly quickly, but I stopped at the Connie Persson section, which is pretty amazing.

The coolest thing, though, is in the preface which I read in its short entirety.
David, I just think it's so great that you and your son, Nir, were able to work together towards such an interesting book. I believe that it was your familial collaboration which saturated this book with 'Connection'. The themes of collaboration, cooperation and process are very strong in this book, much more so than the book on the collectors. This book is very personal and gives much insight into the making of knives, and the people who pursue both the art and the craft of it all. I believe that there is much more depth in the study of knifemakers, than the study of Collectors, at least in the context of the two books that I have so far, David.

I expect that you are most devoted to the makers of knives, the making of knives, and the Art of knives, and I also expect that that devotion will shine very brightly in your upcoming book on Tim Hancock.

The Hancock book will most probably be my next one. Now when can we expect the one one Winkler and Shook?:D

I purchased and sent a copy of Custom Fixed-Blade Knives to a friend outside the US as Amazon would ship to his country direct. So I had the opportunity to compare both my original and the second addition side by side and there is a noticeable difference in quality.

However, I did think the second addition looked good until the direct comparison.
But regardless, a great gift in either case.

John, that would make quite a DDD Maker Book as they have a very interesting history.
And the photos would be outstanding as they live in a very beautiful part of the country. Anyone see "Last of the Mohicans"?

David? ;)
