A sweet little integral by Russ Andrews, MS

That Russ guy is something else..........man, that is NICE!!!!!!!

Great thread, Roger. Thanks for posting.
And thanks for the good words, guys.

I'm glad no one noticed the thumb print on the bolster area in the
third pic...!

This was my second completed integral. The first was a narrow tang,
and there's alot more to doing one with a full tang.....trying to
keep everything aligned......!

I got the Gidgee from Steve Fillicietti...seems like a bunch of years
ago. Unique wood.....very dense, stable, and attractive. I like it,
and use it sparingly.

Bill, I do plan to go to Corbin's hammer in again this year...will try to
bring something.

Matt...let's talk.

Love the lines of this piece, the great looking gidgee and the satin finish is fantastic.
Congrats Roger and Russ. :thumbup::thumbup:

Thanks for the comments, all.

Coop - deceptive simplicity sums it up nicely.

Ralph - thanks. I love the little stag hunter of Russ' that you picked up recently. I am using one of the photos you kindly sent as a bookmark, so I get to see it a lot. ;)

Ken - The dimensions: blade 4 3/4", OAL 9 5/8", 5/8" thick at the bolster. I now realize that it has been AGES since I have had gidgee on a knife. Much too long. We actually debated back and forth (okay - it was mostly me not being able to make up my mind) between stag and gidgee:

As it happened, there were fitment issues with the stag, so I had my mind made up for me. And I couldn't be happier.

Russ' first integral was also one of his JS test knives (pic from Rehoboth Custm Knives):

I can't take any credit for the concept on this knife. I have a few hunters on order with Russ that he has filled over time. When this one came up, he asked if I'd be interested in an integral. Experience has taught me the benefit of letting a maker make the knife that he or she wants to make. This is another example of that very lesson.

I really like this integral. Great design and as always Russ's perfect fit and finish!

absolutely. i suppose i am not the only collector who learnt this lesson the hard way. there are plenty of examples on this forum that illustrate what happens when this important rule is disregarded.

best regards,

Awesomeness.....

Ya know, I'm beginning to get jealous of Coop. He gets to handle sooooo many awesome knives. :)

This could be an interesting topic for a new thread. I had good and bad experiences in both cases.

Ken,
The Gidgee isn't stabilized. I talked to Mike at WSSI about
doing that, and he recommended against it.

Inspiration..? I'd say there were several....some English pieces
I saw lots of years ago, and more recently pieces from the
Brazilian bladesmiths (Sfredo...!), and of course, those extra
clean pieces from Burt Foster...

Yeah. I'm the Hugh Hefner of the knife world. Love 'em, then let 'em go. :p Next....! :D
