I JUST got off the phone with A.T. Barr and thought I should share my experience here. I was getting rid of my excess Kydex & Concealex material and A.T. contacted me to set up a trade. It was well worth interrupting COPS 2-hour special to phone the man!

A.T. sounded like the stereotypical Kentucky gentleman, and he was a great fella to deal with.
I am not only getting a bunch of handle material but also some sheath knives that've been collecting dust on his wall. All in all dealing with A.T. was great...I would feel VERY comfortable ordering a knife from this gentleman, and if other makers are reading this, take it to heart how important the phone conversation is. It's no wonder he's been at it since '79! Anyway, A.T., if you are reading this, it was a pleasure and I appreciate your kindness...

It seems that this post really belongs in the Good, Bad, and Ugly forum. Just a thought.

A.T. is s a fine gentleman and a darn good knifemaker. I kick myself for not getting one of his folders last time i passed one at a purveyors table. I made the fatal error of a walk around the roomm and of course when I got back it was gone. You think I'd have learned by now.

I thought about using the Good, Bad, Ugly forum, but chose not to for a couple reasons. First, I wanted as many FOrum members as possible to know what a great guy A.T. was to deal with. MOre importantly, I wanted as many knife business insiders, forums traders and sellers, and other makers as possible to see how important that first contact is to another person.

On a happier note....AT does FINE work, unfortunatly, I have never had the oportunity to meet him. I have handled several of his knives at dealers tables and they are outstanding. Many of us have benefitted from his wealth of knowledge in the Shop Talk area!

have a"knife"day

About three months ago I received my custom folder from A. T. - it took about 2 1/2 years but was worth the wait. Through it all A. T. always answered my emails whenever I would check on the status of my knife (which was pretty often). He was always courteous and friendly. He is a true gentleman. I cannot say enough good things about the man or his product.
