Some recent posts by a few others combined with a new to me knife have made this a nice topic of interest.

My example happens to be stag and while I would say I prefer the look of the pop-corny/dark side the lighter side feels just as good in hand. In my mind the lighter side looks more like calico bone(never owned any) so I certainly do not get bored looking at this one. Also worth noting is that GEC still did a great job of matching the thickness on my example and that just adds to me liking this particular little guy. Overall I agree with others sentiments that "its like having two different knives" :). I look forward to seeing others mismatched knives, good or bad

This copper bolstered John Lloyd backpocket is pretty mismatched on the stag, but I don't mind one bit. It adds to its already abundant character.

Jeff, I agree with you in regards to liking each side judged on it's own merits. I have a CASE #5392 Stockman that has the very same issue. Yet I like each side for it's own character

Stag doesn't seem to be an issue for me but when my CASE red bone doesn't match that seems to bother me :o

Sorry to disagree, but mismatched covers is one of my pet peeves. Jeff, the darker, popcorny pile side is sublime!

I will agree with Jeff.

However, Corey's Lloyd looks fine to me. I don't consider it mismatched. I guess the ridges and valleys bring it all together for me.

Ill agree on this point as well my friend. I guess because its natural I can go along with the mismatch but bone(jigged and dyed by a man or machine) should be in the same ballpark. I dont want to see black on one side and then a tone of light edging on the other with little black.

Thanks Jeff and getting this one in hand has changed how I look at things I guess. The lighter side looks very plain in the picture but it does have a lot of depth and character I did not capture. I got this one in a trade and it did take me a few days to decide I wanted it. The combo of never owning stag and the very small supply of this particular blade on this frame made me overlook the side to side mismatch and I am very glad I did. This is a great three finger knife and will at the least be great to have in my pocket(because it disappears) when I am out golfing or just running some errands with my ladies. Just a pleasant little slicer that getting past the looks allowed me to enjoy. All that said I have my own pet-peeves and exceptions to rules ;)

Mismatched scales don't bother me, how often are you looking at both sides at the same time, can't see them in the pocket or the hand. Mine are users so doesn't matter to me.

Dark spot on pile side was originally white

No pics from me but I don't mind mismatched colors. What I do mind is mismatched thicknesses. I really hate it when a knife has one side thick...one side thin. :thumbdn:
I just returned a knife for an exchange for that reason (there was a big difference).

Doug, I love your knives and even commented on the mis-matched covers of your recent Queen acquisition. As a rule mis-matched covers don't bother me at all except when the vintage CASE red bones are so dark on the Pile side :(

Other wise it's like two knives for the price of one ;)

Thanks Paul. I acquired all of these from BF members, two of them from you (as you know).
