Hi everybody. I'm not a regular poster to the forum, tho I've read the
forum day-in-day-out for a few years now. I would like to send a public
"thanks", and fulfill a personal "promise", here and elsewhere. {i.e. BF}.

My "promise" was never stated, so to speak, it is just something I'm
following up on now, after the fact.

Most of you regs probably will know of whom I speak. One of you turned me
on to his name and addy last November. (I'm sorry, I don't remember who, or
even which of the forums).

Long story-Short: I had a Buck 501 folder, about 20 years old given to me
by my dad, that needed some work. Loose scales, loose action, etc.

I ended up talking to Joe Hauser, a CEO or other some-such high-ranking Buck
official. He and I spoke via e-mail numerous times. I mailed my knife
directly to him, and a perfectly free replacement was mailed back. There
was some initial contention/confusion because the original was supposed to
have been repaired due to sentimental value, but Joe was on vacation. I
ended up keeping the new one because I couldn't help but stropping it
immediatley. After the fact, Joe Hauser went -Out of HIS Way- to find the
original, and DID. I told him then that I could not send the new one back
in good standing, as I'd been using it since.

In other words, what I'm saying, is that he bent over backwards TWICE to
help me, in the name of Buck's warantee. That, for a no-name internet
nickname guy named WayLander.

Keep it in mind.

I'll be cross-posting this in BF, ignore it if you see it there.

I think that I confused the spelling for Joe Houser for my high-school shop teacher of "Hauser". My bad. Late night post. Sorry.

Great customer service is close to my heart and seeing examples like this shows the solid character of Joe.

This thread is best suited for GB&U, so I'll move it over there.

Do you now have two knives? Did you end up sending the new one back? Did you get the old one back and pay for the new one?

Inquiring minds want to know...

No, I don't have two knives; I am not positive, but I'll bet Joe would have sent me the old original back for free, but he did ask me to send the new replacement back in that case. I could not, in good conscience, as I had already used and stropped the replacement, and told him so.

As far as the basics, it cost me only the buck or so to mail the original, one-way.

WayLander. (p.s. And thanx Moderator; I didn't really know where to post this.)
