dangit philwar!

i was sittin at my computer yesterday with the pic from cold steel's website, taping bits of paper to my screen, trying to figure out how it would look, and planning on buying one so i could do the grind job myself!

and i was thinking about adding a recurve too..

and i was also gonna get some paint remover to take off that silly teflon, i heard its stonewashed underneath

you beat me to it!

Since the new Recon 1 with the Tri-Ad lock came out, they've been offered in two models, a clip point and a tanto.
I've photoshopped a tanto into a drop point with a spanto-like blade, and would love it if Cold Steel produced this one as well.

Your comments are appreciated. Love it, hate it, don't care?

The grind lines shown on your photoshop are "impossible" to produce.
But besides that overall shape of blade is great. It is something that CS is missing.

No more impossible than this, I should think.

I'm not talking about the tip. Tip is fine. I'm talking about edge line and top gring line - those line have to be parrarel, otherway the plane of the blade will not be a plane :)

I think the blade shape is very similar to the spanto of the Hinderer XM-18. I think anyone adept at grinding with a belt would be able to grind away the secondary tanto tip and make it round. Then all you'd have to do is regrind the secondary bevel, and Bob's your uncle. ;)

Thx, and I agree, of course.

I'll likely be getting more toys like a Recon 1 in the new year, after Santa's hand is out of my pocket. The four inch blade and lock sold me. I much prefer your conceptual blade design though.

i would buy it... i was already on the verge of buying a tanto model to spanto mod myself lol

While I've already made mine into this (sorta) - I wish it was a factory option. THIS (smaller guard) however would be more ideal to me (REALLY quick and dirty Pshop):

and mine as it is:

I usually like Cold Steel knives, but I don't like many of the decisions they're making lately. The original Recon 1s were wonderful. They felt smooth and nice in the hand. The 440A blade was one of the sharpest out of the box I've seen, and it's been a rough knife. Even the black finish was more durable than I expected.

The second Recon 1 put a G10 grip on the knife and I began to loose interest, though I liked the AUS8 blade. It was just a rough fit in the hand.

Finally, the third iteration of these are strong; however, the disk flipper is gone and replaced with the standard openers, which are built into the blade.

Seems CS is going to stick with the Tri-Ad locks, which will affect the prices and weight of the knives. I'm not onboard with that as of now.

I'd like to join the chorus agitating for satin finished blades on these things. Not really digging the blade shape there. But I bet you could have it done for a reasonable price 'round these parts. Judging from the responses you seem to be on to something.
