In my view, the "Bowe knife" in the US was our early 19 Century equivalent of the European Small Sword in society.
The advent of practical belt or pocket size revolvers (and pepper box pistols) obviated the need for a major fighting blade as a primary personal weapon.
That is how I see it anyway.
I am not an aficionado of Bowe knives today; too much there for what I need to do. My EDC is a Leatherman Wave.
But by all means, enjoy the world of knives in whatever way it brings you joy.
